How to switch characters in fights

Been wondering how to do this

i think you switch it to party leader

I think you can only do it in combat, you have to go to the menu that shows your party members and assign the one you want as the leader. It doesn't seem to save after combat.

It tells you in a battle tutorial.

In Mid battle either open the menu and hit the button for "switch battle character or--

You can also hold the target button + press the dpad direction of where the character is on your battle party edit screen. (Early game you won't be able to see the character icons in battle, but you can once tou get boost attacks).

Outside of battle open the field menu ->press edit->change leader.

Changing "party leader" in the field menu changes on screen character represented by a green flag.

Changing the "leader" in the "Edit"menu changes who you start off with by default in battle and is represented by a red flag.

You can change them later during battles on the fly too. Keep playing

Ah, it must let you do that a bit later. At the point I'm at, my "field leader" isn't reflected in combat.

Open menu then press R1 to bring out the Party Composition Screen. While in this menu, press the Square button on the character you wish to control.

hold L1 and dpad, L1 and dpad quickly if u wanna do a quick swap after boost attack. It's very stupid I gotta google for this cuz there's nothing in the battle help

I’m playing this on SteamDeck and the only way I can seem to do it is to bring up the menu and swap players with L1/R1. The official SteamDeck profile has a “Switch” action to assign but it doesn’t seem to do anything.
