Imagine spending all that money on an OLED though and have to place anti burn in measures. Always have that in the back of your mind, is this games UI going to stay on the screen forever?
Talk about something that should not exist in 2021

This. All the people who I know that are into gaming (even some non-gamers who work from home) have UW monitors. Even when I go into my office at work I have two UW monitors. Really, the only people I know that don't have them are people who are saving up for a new gaming tower + gaming setup (which will have 2-3 UW monitors).
I guess there are a few people at work who prefer the old 1920x1980 monitors, but their average age is over 60, so they definitely aren't in the gaming market (we do play D&D/Shadowrun on lunches though).
Though as was said, Japanese Developers are slowly becoming irrelevant in the world of gaming, so they will either change with the times or die out (like several Japanese Developers already have recently). Heck a few Japanese Developers moved their headquarters to the EU/Americas already.
Because these games aren't developed with the Western market in mind. They're still very much targeted at the console and Japanese markets. Steam is a global platform and only 3% of its users have an ultrawide monitor. How many Japanese gamers, PC gamers even, do you think that translates into? A few thousand?
This is ludicrous. Four of the ten best-selling games released in 2020 were developed in Japan. Two more are in the top 20.
Dell 6.4 million 1.1%
HP 4.6 million -1.9%
TPV 4.3 million- 8.9%
Lenovo 3.0 million-5.8%
LG 2.5 million-3.3%
Others 9.2 million-7.3%
Total 30.1 million-2.2%

Follow this thread for a fix coming soon. There are temporary edits that work in the replies as well.

I have a 21:9 38" Alienware, 21:9 34" LG and two 32:9 49" Samsungs. Guess I am hording them. People who continuously ♥♥♥♥ on ultrawide threads, which pretty much exist in every game's forum (that alone should tell you something), are more obsessed with these monitors than we are.
Don't engage the trolls. They're just looking to argue. Go to the WIP thread posted above and a fix will be out soon
I knew perfectly well that most JRPGS wouldn't come with UW support, and for that reason i don't feel the need to act like a child everytime a JRPG doesn't come with it.
Being reasonable is being a troll now?
A good engine automatically adjusts to ANY resolution/aspect ratio (4:3, 16:10, 16:9, 21:9, 32:10, 32:9 etc.) and HUD elements also automatically adjust to the sides of the screen in that case.
So just to clarify: ultrawide support is not really something that you have to specifically develop games for as opposed to some uneducated people's beliefs. Adding ultrawide support (or more specifically, support for different resolutions/aspect ratios) would literally only take a few lines of changed/added code.
If something shows how absolutely lazy developers are, than this is it.
And this is why we've been using simple UE4 engine flags to enable Ultrawide, because it's baked into the engine. I expect an official patch within a week, but an unofficial one is being already worked on in WIP thread

Well no more than a few thousands millions actually given that steam data is not 100% accurate, since not everyone shares there data, but hey lets say its precise, at 120 million steam users thats 3,600,000 users with ultra wide.
I know math is hard
Of which, only a fraction are in Japan. Japan is not a PC market and it never has been. Who the ♥♥♥♥ in Japan even has space for an ultrawide monitor?
