Is it just me or does this not really feel much like a Tales game?
I mean the game is decent but it just doesn't feel like a Tales game to me.

I'd love to have more Japanese games on the same budget as western AAA games, like a JRPG with a large world to explore, high end graphics, but still retain the Japanese style.

It's frustrating when a game like that finally happens, it's Genshin from a Chinese studio, making huge money from imitating Japanese style.

Just make me wonder why Japanese devs don't make a game like Genshin themselves? Why did Chinese devs see the opportunity to create something big with Japanese stuffs, the style that some Japanese devs try to abandon in order to cater to the western gamers.

It's just sad. The upcoming Granblue game might be close to that, but I doubt it's gonna be as popular.

lol actually you are right, my friend. Genshin Impact indeed is like what, 100 million dollar budget game? I don't think there is a Japanese dev that even gets that kind of budget except for Hideo Kojima and FromSoftware and such Western game developers in Japan.

And the game already made like what, 2 billion dollars in one year already... lol... Dragon Ball's Dokkan Battle, the mobile game, made 2 billion dollars after 4 years of its service and Dokkan Battle is currently the BIGGEST profit maker for Dragon Ball franchise. So Genshin Impact seems to single-handedly beat Dragon Ball in just 1 year lol...

And I guess it really all comes down to economics, you know? Japan is now unable to develop (Completely unable to develop in the last 30 years) economically, the Japanese minimum wage does not go up and only taxes increase, the Japanese culture is so weakened that, the young people in Japan only care about Kpop and such Korean culture, and the Japanese gaming industry has become so weak that, more and more Japanese are playing games from China, such as Azur Lane, Kouya Koudou and now Genshin Impact. And currently the most popular Asian multiplayer game is I guess, NARAKA: BLADEPOINT? A Chinese battle royale game.

And back in the 80's and 90's, when people say East Asia, people thought of Japan, but nowadays, when you say East Asia, then it is China. In fact, the majority of Japanese Anime merchandise sales come from China, too. Japan needs to rely on South Korea culturally and Japan needs to rely on China economically. So it is rather obvious as to why China gets far more attention than Japan does in the global economy today.

miHoYo's president says it cost that much but I would guess a lot of that was infrastructure and marketing. Genshin ads are everywhere. It's a huge outlier in the mobile market in terms of dev costs (most mobile games are made relatively cheap but bring in huge profits, which is one of the reasons so many devs are going that way.)

Square Enix probably does. Resident Evil also definitely is up around there. I suspect a lot of Nintendo properties hit that mark too, but more in marketing than development costs.
