new font is unreadable
i totally get the idea behind the font thing right, but please, please, just change it back, it was all perfect, it was think but not bulky, and it was dark. the new font is actually unreadable, like accessibility issue unreadable. it feels like i'm trying to read a 7 million watt flashlight while having nail files scraped on my eyes, i literally cant even figure out what its supposed to say.

seriously, i'm not joking, i'm not over exaggerating, i genuinely have no idea what these words say anymore, the font is too thin while being bright at the same time. i gotta decipher this ♥♥♥♥ one letter at a time and its a headache.

at least get an option to swap it back, this isn't a issue where i can sit and be annoyed by it and hope its fixed some day, its an issue that is going to make it impossible for me to play independently. i can get adding other languages but the new font could have just went with that, there's no reason English needed to change.

i'm on my way to find a website with pictures the entire notebook before this update and hope i can get around the rest of the text.

I agree that this would also single out players with text reading issues, or anyone who has a hard time reading script fonts. This is a very ableist font. The older font was better by far.

If someone were to tell me that changing a font would throw me off in a game, I'd laugh at them... That said... it for some reason is just making my brain think it's reading cursive, and it just sputters out thinking "what is this garbage font." I'd appreciate it being reverted too.

I think it'd be ideal if we had options as to what font the game would use. The new one definitely isn't very ideal

I think the font type itself is fine, but I could certainly see the text size being increased to compensate the drop in legibility.

The font is so small now, wearing my glasses doesn't even help. At LEAST add a font size slider, this sucks

I don't get it, I don't think ANYONE ever complained about the old font so why the hell did they change it?

The font should be more bold to make it better to read

no seriously. i never thought the font being what ruined a game would be something i had an issue with. but this font doesnt even throw me off my game. i have a astigmatism and thick glasses and its so thin yet bright so when i first looked at it i thought the book was blank. but i actully have to read it glasses off. stupid changes.

the FONT is not the issue, it is how the rendering is implemented, which is awful. The following shows text from a short distance, (left) and from up close (right) at the same pixel density: https://imgur.com/a/zN8HXHs

My guess is that phasmo is trying to calculate texture downscaling by angular size instead of actual distance, meaning text, which is super small, is treated like it is super far away, and is downscaled a TON.

with good text rendering, the text is perfectly legible from a decent distance, but with the current rendering it is impossible to read anything over a couple meters away

Part of the problem (for me, at least) was how the new font interacted with the "FidelityFX Super Resolution 1.0". That option attempts to improve performance by rendering the screen at a lower resolution to that set and then 'upscaling' to the actual resolution. Depending on the setting (eg, Performance, Balanced, etc.) the actual rendered resolution can be quite a lot lower than the actual screen resolution.

With the new font being much thinner, the lower resolution can leave the upscaler without enough information to render the font properly - so the text becomes completely unreadable when you're not close enough to it.

I found for me that the performance improvements in the new update meant that I could switch the FidelityFX Super Resolution 1.0 to "Off" (previously I was using "Balanced") and still get a decent framerate and the rendering of the fonts are now much more readable - since it isn't having to upscale from a lower resolution.
