I'm a total wimp in horror games and I'm still scared if I play Phasmo on my own (less when playing with two of my friends)... and even I wouldn't want friendly ghosts. The possibility to trigger a hunt and maybe die is what keeps you on the edge, kinda. It's supposed to be a horror game so, nope... If anything, I would love if the dev could make the atmosphere of the game more terrifying. So yes to the ceiling crawling, seeing shadows, stuff like that... but I'd need more than visuals, I'd like better sound effects. A more polished sound design could ramp up the creepy atmosphere.
Oh hey... if you want friendly ghosts, play the tutorial. There's no hunting in the tutorial so... there. You already have friendly entities. Problem solved? You're welcome.
maybe the hunting phase will remain, but the ghost will not be able to kill you. you usually stop being afraid of the ghost when you realize what the type is. all that remains is to leave the house. but here.. it would be the same, only without fear of leaving the house after discovering a type of ghost? after all, usually the question is "are you friendly?" looks useless and naive :)
but this is just a guess how to diversify the game
I'm sorry, but I'm not sure I understand what you mean by that. The fear of leaving the house?
Well.. I don't ask ghosts if they are friendly but i suppose that if the question works, it's only to trigger responses like "hurt" and "kill". I guess it's supposed to add to the creepy atmosphere, just like when you get "die die die" scribbled in the book.
Why do people want to be able to fight back in some form?
So while a friendly ghost won't hunt players, it can still drop sanity when being witnessed by players, likely at a much higher rate to make up for no hunts.
