As some of the ghosts currently in the game have no connection with Christianity (the Jinn, Oni, Yurei, and in this concept the Wendigo) it doesnt make sense that the christian Crucifix be a defense against these ghost types. We came up with a better counter system involving the Crucifix, smudge sticks, and Candles where the Jinn, Oni, Yurei and Wendigo are affected by Smudges, the Demon, Banshee, Poltergeist, and Revenant be effected by the Crucifix, and the Shade, Spirit, Phantom, Wraith, and Mare being affected by Candles. This brings in a better balanced system than the current Crucifix "Cures all" system in game. Now you need to narrow down the type of ghost to properly defend against it.
The introduction of the wendigo ghost type would make a great spearhead to the introduction of the revamped defense gameplay mechanic, allowing players to try out the new defenses and understand how it works while playing matches trying to get the new Wendigo ghost type.
Of course, this concept is still just a concept that I and others have been polishing up and smoothing out in reddit discussions before really pushing a finalized Idea in hope of integration into the game
