Basically what is happening is that the held item is colliding into the player model while they are crouched, causing them to want to separated. Problem there is, there is no way for them to really separate without the player getting involved (be it by standing up or dropping the item), so it causes you to just... uncontrollably walk away from the held item.
The workaround is pretty straightforward - if you see this happening, then simply do not crouch and move with those items. A long term fix would be for them to code in an exclusion, where if an item is being held then it does not have any collision. That said... even a simple addition of code like that could cause more complicated issues, and they may not even happen right away... so we'll have to see.
