Can't seem to PLACE any equipment

Need help please. The option for placing an item of equipment is not working for me. The default key for placing is 'F'. I've tried holding the key for a while as well as a short press, but it's not working. Also, in the control settings there is no option for PLACE so the key can't be changed. I've tried uninstalling/re-installing the game but that's done nothing. I haven't played the game for a few months and uninstalled it temporarily as I needed drive space for something else. PLACE was working back then, but now that I've re-installed it I'm having no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

The control you want is "Secondary Use" in the controls list, it'll be the 6th option from the top in controls.
