What does the creepy choked breathing signify?
I've never heard that sound in any video before, and it was the most horrifying thing to hear it for the first time while ingame. I assumed it meant the ghost was hunting, until a different ghost made that noise and when I turned to go the door was still open. So, is that breathing noise just present when the ghost is visible either as a shadow or darkened model or when it wanders at you menacingly without being able to kill you, or is it just generally the sound they make? I've made it a habit to just move as far away from that sound as possible and the wiki has no mention of it that I could see, so what exactly is it? Thanks

If you mean the sound that is heard, when the ghost appears, regardless of whether you are able to see them, that comes from the Ring movies. Or the grunge movies. The ghost girl makes that sound. But in Phasmophobia, all the ghosts make that sound.

Yeah, any time they appear, in full body form, shadow form, they will make that sound. And sometimes just before a hunt, because they appeared.

But not *during* a hunt right? Hearing that means "good time to run towards it and take a photo" and not good time to run and hide, yeah? That's what I couldn't tell, since I heard it then got hunted, and the ghost-o-meter said activity was at a 10 at some point, but that sound shouldn't happen during the hunt itself?

If you hear it during the hunt, I think that means it's right behind you. Or very close. I think it could have something to do with line of sight. When I break it, I don't hear the gurgle sound, but when it turns the corner, I do.

I've noticed that even when hiding in lockers, which can be a little glitchy, sometimes I'll hear the gurgle sound as if they caught line of sight to me, even with the door closed, but if I'm holding the locker door close, they can't enter to kill me.

I have never heard the ghost do it during a hunt, just the loud footsteps and heartbeat. But be careful because a lot of players like to imitate that sound, including me, to fool other players.

Ah okay, cheers. I'll keep an ear out for it and go for pictures next time, and if I hear it during a hunt I'll just kiss my arse goodbye. Also, I don't know if I'm gonna try to play multiplayer, I tend to be a lone wolf more when it's a multiplayer compatible game, but at least I don't have to worry about false signals for now.
The other thing I don't know and want to ask about (which I would've added to the main post if I was thinking properly) is what bearing radio guy has on the mission, whether there were reports of violence, whether the last tenants left in a hurry, does any of that actually effect anything?

The croaking/gurgling sound occurs when either the ghost manifests into it's full form or shadow form. It's also audible during a hunt when a ghost has locked line of sight onto a target.

Pretty certain the radio reports describe the personality and behaviour of ghost.

I found out last night that yeah the gurgling is when the ghost has line of sight for hunts, and just happens when its visible otherwise.
Radio guy seems to be something you can just dismiss though, I had one that was "reports of flickering lights" and the Demon in there toggled the lights maybe twice, so I guess it has a bit of an effect. Thanks everyone, I think I understand way better now, and since I tried multiplayer to get in person help I think I can do solo a lot better (no promises)
