Also be sure to turn the power on ASAP, so that the house starts warming up... which in turn will let you identify the ghost room via temperature quickly
You can safely ignore this - Deogens are hard coded not show up until you've unlocked Nightmare Difficulty, or play with a host who is at/above level 30.
If you don't, do the same, but with EMF to scout out the location while asking things like "can you give me a sign" and listen for activity. You'll get an EMF 2 if the ghost messed with an object like a cup or something.
Don't turn on lights in rooms unless you know for a fact that the ghost isn't there.
As soon as you know what room it is, drop your evidence gear in the room you found it in, immediately bring in a crucifix, and if you wanna play it safe, have one person bring a Smudge stick. Once you use a Smudge stick, you're basically invulnerable for 5 seconds during a hunt. This'll allow you to run and hide (just make sure to turn off any flashlights/electronic based gear)
For example, on Tanglewood, if the ghost is in the baby room, I like to run to hide behind the end table in the dining room.
You can also help this by placing one of your crucifixes in the hallway outside the ghost room. That way the ghost is less likely to appear between you and your hiding spot.
Some people I know aren't fantastic at creating a mental map of places and found in an no-pressure environment where you could safely explore and take note of things, they were able to learn the maps easier.
