Since interaction isn't guaranteed and neither is ghost events, you can still use a paramicrophone, which will certainly give you paramic interections close to you when located in a room different than the ghost room; if you have more than one player, they all need to move to the same room as you or leave the house for you to do the test.
In other words, you don't need the actual scream to confirm if the ghost is a banshee.
And the Myling is quiter in hunts, because that's what it is designed to do. The devs have never made any statements or changes towards it being quieter outsides of hunts, so it's working as intended
Banshees have a 33% chance to scream instead of giving a generic paramic response. Banshees will only chase the target if they are inside the building. If they are outside, the Banshee behaves like any other ghost.
Mylings are quiet hunters, but will behave like chatterboxes on the paramic. For a quick Myling test, I often just throw my flashlight or handheld electronic on the floor. If I don't hear the ghost at all (minus thrown objects/doors touched) until after my equipment starts glitching, I know it's a Myling.
The only time ghost odds are weighted is when new ghosts are introduced. Beyond that it's just RNG.
