Can a Poltergeist not throw with no sanity?
Yesterday, we were a team of four players and already knew from the evidence that we were dealing with a Poltergeist so we prepared a table full of items for him to throw. At that point, we were all at ZERO sanity - we checked it in the van.
Sadly, he did not throw anything during the next hunt, even though we looped it around the prepared table.
Can a Polty not throw stuff when there is no sanity he can drain for this ability? I know that he would drain 2 sanity for each item he throws. Is that the reason why he did not throw anything?

Abilities can only be used outside of hunts. Inside a hunt, Poltergeists will try to throw something every 0.5 seconds within a 3 m radius. Sanity doesn't matter for that to happen.

Ghosts don't spend your sanity to do abilities. They just do abilities, and if you are nearby, you lose the appropriate sanity as a consequence.

It SHOULD be capable of throwing things every half second. I've seen a single object be the only thing near it and get touched like 7 times, bouncing different directions in the air, until it finally fell out of reach, lol.

As an aside, the "throw a big pile" ability is outside of hunts, and in fact it competes against a hunt for "things to do" check. If you have zero sanity, it is more likely to hunt than just an ability honestly.

But if it walked past a table full of stuff, it is possible it was moving objects you just didn't necessarily see (stuff on the ground in the area, the same objects over and over, etc). Not everything is that loud when being touched, and if the area has carpet it could get drowned out by the steps and particularly loud groans.

It's always worth noting that Polite Polty can be a thing too...sometimes you just get one that does not want to move your things around. That said, you can help the polty along by trying to remove other options from the room; you can't really help doors, of course, but removing anything that's not in your polty pile, and removing anything that might get evidence (writing book, DOTS, and the video camera/tripod) will give it fewer options to mess around with, and potentially let it throw the pile. That said, it's still only a chance, never a guarantee...I've ID'd many a Polty, but I've had a much smaller ratio of having a pile get thrown.

I kind of wish polty bombs could be more consistent, I hate when my friends and I make a nice pile of everything but then it goes shy and stops doing ANYTHING. Like it hates that we touched its toys and brought new ones into the room.

Thanks, Kaisoku, for the detailed answer. Now I got it, I think. :)
Also thanks to Maya, Watcher and Vahn. It is great to have an active community that answers questions so quickly. Cheers!
