"Hey! Thanks for the feedback! I was torn as the old voices were just me and my partner.
However, it was changed to make it as close to an actual spirit box as we could, when we add the new Sound Recorder item in the next biggish update, we can return some of those creepy sounds from before (but better of course).
Hope that helps ! :D"
It's a wild idea, but it's literally one from the real world.
EVPs are where you record audio, play it back and listen for ACTUAL ghosts speaking. Sometimes this is done with tools (parsing the high and low frequencies, finding something that looks like possible speech, and bring it into audible range).. sometimes it's literally "we didn't hear it, but the recorder picked it up".
This is where you'll hear the ghost talking to you directly: "Behind you!" "Get out!" "We all died here." etc..
There's also a device that is more similar to the Spirit Box (ghost interrupts electrical circuits), but it has a sort of "dictionary of words" that the ghost can pick from, and cause the box to have an electronic voice speak.
The very first Spirit Box from Phasmo was like this.. and that gave me chills more than the silly "oooooh, I'm behind you" voice coming from a radio. It would be much better as "record it, play it back, and hear it" (as EVP)... that's creepier, knowing it spoke that in response but you just didn't hear it next to you.
However, there is something just creepy about an electronic device faulting over to produce a noise where no one should have been able to do it. It's like when a kids toy goes off in the middle of the night "I wanna play!" in the corner of the room... ugh.
All three have their place, honestly. I was really hoping the Tier 3 Spirit Box was more like a dictionary type of box, but they kinda went all out on the radio signal recordings so I can understand why they'd want it showcased all the way through. I'd still like that being an option though, down the line.
Thanks for the info, im looking forward for the change.
You're welcome! Also, a bonus fact I learned from that thread. All of the audio lines for the new Spirit Box are from popular Phasmo Youtubers & Twitch Streamers.
Take that how you will
Go to YouTube and search "old radio white noise" or "old radio tuning" or "paranormal ghost sound device." None of the devices portrayed sound like the spirit box featured in Phasmophobia. I'm happy to hear they will roll back some of these changes!
Yet nobody has proven, that any kind of paranormal device works as intended, so as of now, every tool in that regard is mostly just a product of the creativity of the inventor on how they think, what that tool should behave. That said, there's no final "that's how it is done", as every way of doing it is equally wrong in what they're intended to do in the first place
Devs should allow us to TOGGLE between the original and new audios so that we are able to better personalize our own experiences in-game in the way we want rather being forced into a controversial change. It's nice that DEVs wanted to include CC's, but honestly, doesn't suit the game's creepy atmosphere like it did with the OG audios; OG's were just more anxiety inducing and are a loved classic. The new audios will never grow on me, personally.
New box objectively superior.
