Freezing temps - temp below 0 (seeing your breath doesn't count). If the power is out, it can also falsely give out freezing temp readings.
Ghost orbs - can be mimic, they have orbs and can throw you off. See if it can be a mimic before checking off orbs. If it can then make a mental note and look for other evidence to rule it out.
Spirit box - has to talk back to you
Dots - Doesn't count if you see it through dots in a ghost event or hunt.
EMF - Has to be 5, nothing less.
UV - Glowing handprints or footprints. 6 finger handprints/2 fingerprints on light switches are Obake
Ghost Writing - Has to write in the book
I find EMF and Freezing temps to be the least reliable.
I can't find any information that you can detect freezing temperatures, actually having something sub-zero show on the thermometer, outside of it being evidence. Are you implying maybe weather conditions (snow) can cause sub-zero temperatures? I can't find this being true anywhere - but interested to know. Have never been caught out where seeing sub-zero hasn't been evidence.
Worth double checking if OP means they actually circled the same ghost that the post-game is saying was the ghost type, and still being told they got it wrong. Otherwise it would seem pretty obvious you didn't get the right type when you circled something else.
What makes you think, that you had the correct ghost type in the first place though? As of now it sounds like you've made a mistake and aren't willing to accept that.
Without any more informations (or preferably even recordings) there's not that much we can help you with here.
Yeah, weather can't cause the temp to go sub-zero. Snow is the lowest with like 3-6 °C, but even then you won't get false positives (though it can cause people who didn't know about the breath changes to be tricked by it, which most likely caused rumors to spread about it). And the explanation to it can be found in the Tutorial, as they've not said anything about this kind of feature, but implied, that sub-zero is always a proof for the ghost type.
I also seemed to get over the issue by finding out if you cross out a ghost type in evidence it would sometimes count as circling it too.
