This is what discussions are for, discussing things
Living players tell the dead person which side means what.
Once I got caught by Revenant which I identified from its hunting ability.
My friends simply asked me was it rev (left side) or other ghost that I cant remember (right side). Threw mug to the left and the case was closed.
I have heard that people want spirit box to be able to commune with the dead players but I think this is more creative.
Well, we can discuss ways of communication here, but the forums here usually have like 50 recurring players, while the game hits 30.000 people on peaks, so chances are very high, that people doesn't know the fancy stuff we came up with.
Like i didn't even know, what the cupboard thing is (and still don't know, how you use it for Y/N and why it need to be the cupboard and not other things), since i wasn't present whenever that was discussed and i'm playing the game since well before the addition of them and never really missed a day looking into the dicsussions here. That's why i say, that discussions here aren't really that helpful, because it takes way more than like 50-100 people to establish something.
"Throw the handcuffs into the truck if you see EMF5, and the coffee cup if it's Freezing Temps."
"Any of it yet? You still there? Throw a book if you're still there."
If there are still evidence items in the truck, then it's probably easier to just lay them down and have the dead player throw an item near the evidence which you've got. It's way faster then telling the dead player to go back into the truck just to get another item you've asked for. That's especially helpful in case, that the dead player didn't expect to bring an item at all, as the clipboard can be used for that even on the fly after explaining the new rules of communication
But with that as well it mostly comes down to proper communication from the living player (including the ones who'll be dead later on), as the dead player can't just make this up on the fly without the living ones not knowing, how you want to communicate.
