Ghost Speeds
I know some ghosts have speeds that are affected by the environment, such as whether the player is close, far etc...but my team had a goryo earlier and this guy was buzzing, i thought these sort of ghosts always remained a normal speed unless maybe seen? can anyone clarify if this was a bug? or if ghosts can also just straight up have different speeds when loading into a game?

A Goryo starts with a base speed of 1,7 m/s (normal ghost speed), but will speed up to ~2,8 m/s (1,65 times the base speed) after having seen a player for a few seconds, which isn't a bug, but a feature to make infinite looping significantly harder.

And even if you break line of sight it won't instantly go back to 1,7 m/s, but keep its speed for quite long (speed up is fast, but slow down very slow). So if you've hidden out of range of the footstep sounds and a friend of yours already make it go faster by staying in line of site, then it's possible to have it being faster when you hear it first. And highschool and prison in particular have some very long room, where the ghost might already be able to pick up significant amounts of speed, even before you get in the hearing range.

And yeah, they can also have higher or lower base speed based on the difficulty second you're using, 150% ghost speed will raise its basic speed to 2,55 m/s and even allow further speed up through LoS.

If all of that doesn't happen to you, then yeah, it might be a bug.

I don't know the m/s of each, but the ghosts broken down by speed are:

Normal Speed (behave as described above by Maya-Neko)
- Spirit
- Wraith
- Phantom
- Poltergeist
- Banshee
- Mare
- Shade
- Demon
- Yurei
- Oni
- Yokai
- Goryo
- Myling
- Onryo
- Obake

Special Speed Ghosts
- Jinn (speeds up if they can see a player, faster at a distance, slows down as gets closer)
- Revenant (slow when it doesn't know where a player is, extremely fast on seeing or detecting a player)
- Hantu (slow in high temps, fast in low temps)
- The Twins (Each hunt has a 50/50 chance of being slightly slower or faster than "normal")
- Moroi (gets faster as team sanity gets lower)
- Deogen (faster when distant, extremely slow up close)
- Thaye (fast at start of the game, grows slower between hunts if you stay close to it)

Finally... The Mimic... which can do any of the above.

You're going to want something like the cheat sheet/tracker as you learn things.
This one even allows you to tap to see how fast the ghost is to help identify it.
