Does Difficulty Scale Based On Number of Players?
If I play on Professional difficulty by myself, do the mechanics all work the same as if I had 3 people with me. Like the rate that my sanity drops for instance?

If you're playing solo the sanity drain rate is halved, outside of that playing with 2,3,4 players is the same. There is no difficulty scaling, the more players, the easier it is as you can find the ghost room and bring in items quicker.

There is also the added bonus that the more players you have in your group, the more hiding spots there are. 3 players get +1 hiding spot and 4 players get +2

I don't get the point of that, are the devs planning to prevent players from hiding in the same spot or something?

It doesn't have to have a point from a gameplay perspective, just lets people hide in different spots because its a little more fun or aesthetically pleasing.
If you play Nightmare difficulty, the ghost can kill more than one player per hunt, so if everybody had to pile into the same spot, the ghost can end the hunt right there.

playing with 3 more players makes it fairly easier on professional and below. the reason for this is a secret mechanic called "Meat Shield".

which is also coincidentally the same thing "Friends" are called.

But on the flip side multiplayer is also often harder due to people messing around for a laugh, less self control of environments and general chaos... which i not suggesting is a bad thing, just the way things roll typically lol

They don't need too, even with current system if one player hides well and would normally be safe, but a friend decides to use same spot but forgets to turn of a device off, then they are both dead.

Not true, unless playing Nightmare mode. (The ghost can only kill one player at a time in all other modes.)
