If you don't want to risk your life for it, then you can also wait for it to write into the book while watching it with a camera. It will start to hover, when a ghost writes something down. Also throw every object out of the room, so that the ghost has less stuff to interact with overall.
And you should make sure, that the books are in the room with the ghost, so try to get it do some stuff, so you can rule out two of those rooms. Or make sure to switch on the fuse box and wait, until two of the rooms get hotter again. (spirit box works as well to find it, but since the Moroi curses you through the box i wouldn't recommend it at that point, unless you know, how to hide properly)
Got a door, lightswitch, two pairs of shoes, a phone, & a writing book in one room? Ghost has a 1/8 chance of writing then. Got just the door, switch, and book in the room? Now it's 1/3.
If you want to increase the chance of writing, place the book in a high traffic area with few interaction items. Rob the joint if need be.
Also, placement location of the book matters people- Putting the book in the center of a room is usually not a great idea, It's best to put it in the nearest avenue to the rest of the building when reasonably possible- IE, In the doorway. If you know the ghost is wandering repeatedly between rooms, having the book in a spot where it constantly walks back and forth over it is the best option, as it may not travel far enough into either room to reach one that is more centrally placed.
