Yikes my bad for bold texts.
I don't think it would really make difference..
You get an answer if all of these condition were met:
1. has the ghost spirit box as an evidence?
2. is a spirit box within 3 meters of you?
3. is the ghost within 3 meters of the same spirit box?
4. is this spirit box activated?
5. is the area/room you are in dark?
6. did you used a proper phrase / keywords (like: "give me a sign", "where are you", "how old are you")
7. some, not all ghosts: are you alone in the room?
8. is the ghost in the mood to talk? the chance is only 33%
Fun facts:
1. spirit box does work through the walls, ceilings, room borders and doors
2. you can get answers from a ghost from a max range of 6 meters if you use the spirit box on the floor as a relais station: 3+3=6 meters
3. it doesn't matter if the ghost itself is in a lit room or players are next to it as long as yourself are in the dark or alone in your current room location (the latter just if necessary)
4. ghosts did also answer during hunts pre-patch (not recommended to do so and needs re-checking now)
5. saying anything prior to keyphrases can ruin the vocie recognition result. Avoid saying "Thomas, where are you". You won't get an answer. The same goes for "Strawberry cupcake, where are you". Just say "where are you". "Where are you, Thomas" is working too
Hope this helps anyone.
Yes, keywords are enough. In German I can say "bist du" (what means "are you") and get the answer for the age. I found out, at least for the German voice recognition, the words like "where" or "what" isn't needed at all. Can be easily check with the Quija board :)
I think the ghost can also randomly decide to interact and speak through the spirit box on its own without being asked.
Yesterday I had a ghost in tanglewood dining and a spirit box on the table and it kept talking for no reason. It was hilarious lmao
Yes, this is true. My ifnormation is about using the spirit box with voice recognition. But the activated spirit box, if hold in hands, at the VR belt, or laying on the ground can be used randomly by the ghost like any usual ghost interaction.
This is intended and added to make the game playable for person who don't play on Windows 10 (as voice recognition only wirks with Windows 10) or don't have a mic at all.
my guess is that it looks for "are you..." and goes from there.
