You literally wrote "4+ player lobbies" in your post, in the same sentence you described "fixing funny things". There is nothing funny about server buckling down due to exploits.
Fixing bugs has its own nuances too. Some fixes cannot be implemented in certain (now old) versions of Unity for example. Some issues require procuring entirely new assets or the work effort of other employees. It's a matter of prioritization and only the developers can determine their work order.
Spawning items is what broke the cracked lobbies (which restarted by themselves if nobody joined anyway).
Not the doors, not the number of players, nothing else but the abuse of spawned/injected stuff (which is still happenning since i've seen a turkish dude spawning ouija boards and voodoo dolls in the lobby a couple of weeks ago).
Hard mode: name 1 phas-like better than phasmaphobia.
In 2021 we got like 10 new ghosts? New map, new evidence, a ton of overhauls and cursed possessions. Meanwhile in 2022 we got VR Overhaul (I still have mixed feelings about that) and truck overhaul. I feel like a lot of technical things changed, but due to lack of new content, like new meaningful mechanics, we are still stuck in the old gameplay. Truth be told, since 2020 nothing really changed when you play the game.
To be blunt, ghosts act still the same way, with few exceptions, that after some time are just inconvenience. Back in the day people believed things like "saying the ghost name will anger it more", "talking to it will help you get evidence", "saying blood mary will make you a target of the hunt" etc. Time passed, we learned, that this doesn't work or is useless so no one is speaking to the ghost anymore. No one is using the name, no one is using the cursed possessions. For real, I am still struggling to find use for those items, besides trolling other players by initiating a cursed hunt. I don't need to ask the ghost to interact with me. I don't need to ask for my sanity on Nightmare. I don't need to know it's room specifically, as we will still find it on our own. I am not going to risk my items and money just to take a pic of the ghost. I am sorry, but that was such a miss for me.
I wish we would get more mechanics or changes in the gameplay. Maybe new items, new systems. I heard about the weather system and window opening, but currently we are still waiting. I wish the ghosts would have more character and talking to them would make sense.
The game wasn't initially made for the current scale. It was already pretty much done, before it skyrocketed that much. And as for now they're obviously busy reworking things, getting rid of Unity assets and building the plattform to actually be able to add more mechanics.
Upgradable items for example are already planned for the big update after the next one.
Additionally they're also overhauling the render pipeline in that patch, which is propably the first step into optimizing the game for the horror 2.0 update and who knows, if they also think about adding ghost types, which utilize the changes made in that regard.
So sometimes it's just more important to actually work on the fundament of the game and not just adding layers of layers of features on top of a base, which can barely support any of the new things, they might want to add. Just think about it as turning a house into a skyscraper. At some point you just really need to make sure, that the fundament can really carry all the new ideas and features.
Talking to the ghost makes it more active by the way. So if you decide to not talk to it, then it's rather on you not wanting to do it anymore.
And overall just go and play with some new players. They're still pretty much acting like this today as you've acted that way in your beginning days. There's not that much the devs can do to stop it happen, since it's just basic human nature, that we're learning pretty fast. The devs can't really do that much about it beyond trying to make it more scary for beginners and at the same time make it more challenging for the seasoned players with some challenging modes or ghost behaviors.
Even if they add something new to the game, you'll propably acclimate to it quite fast anyway. That's just how Horror games work in general. The amount of things they would need to add to even scare long time players raises exponentially with the experience of said players. You've to just accept the fact, that the devs can't just fully reinvent their own game within a few month at that point, just to get you scared for like 5 additional hours.
Aptly put...
Things rarely go perfectly in any field of long term work and game development is not an exception. There's limited opportunity or benefit in criticizing past decisions and practices, especially with limited information available, but that doesn't mean there's no room at all for constructive feedback, especially with future perspective in mind.
A lot of hopes are riding on the URP and progression updates, and the devs do want feedback on updates in general, especially when they are released. But looking back into the past when the state of the game and its development was very, very different is hardly fruitful.
I truly recommend anyone here to submit update feedback on Steam discussions (the feedback section specifically) as well as the official Discord server (when the feedback channels are available during post-update period) when the updates are released, not one or two years after the updates. :P
As you can see, you will be immediately jumped on by the same ol' bunch of phasmo fanboys/discord moderators, discrediting every point you make with single sentence ad hominem arguments, most of the times without even reading or understanding what you meant.
Also, some of the triggered ones will also click the report button on what they consider "disrespectful", as I've just witnessed with two of my yesterday's comments on this thread.
That's the current quality level of the replies/tantrums made to OP's legit opinion. There is no point in debating with them.
It seems that the toxic phasmo community is the main problem, not the game by itself.
(To the bunch of
No offense to you but that is a cowardly way to go.
Continuing to call certain groups of people negative things only makes us think you like to start ♥♥♥♥. People nowadays should be civil in discussions and not have arguments that contain name-calling or ♥♥♥♥ like that. (Not saying you did)
Healthy Disagreements are something I would like to see nowadays, but its pretty rare.
But hey, every community has its own toxicity anyways.

Attacking your argument isn't an attack on your person. Unlike, for example, trying to dig into someone's profile to discover what or how much they play games and trash talk about it.
>blame others for being disrespectful
>have your own messages reported for being disrespectful instead
That pretty much sums up your contribution here. It's going to be a good thing if you can avoid reading this, so we can stay on topic, if it is further needed at this point.
I'll be the first to put my hands up and say that I don't agree with some of the content that has come out but at the same time, fixing safe spots is beneficial for the multiplayer experience.
