Darkness

Haven't played in a month or so, but the game just seems so much darker than before. Like beyond 8ft is near pitch black without a flashlight.

It has always been extremely dark to me. Though there are options that will effect lightning, even outside just brightness. So something might of changed there.

I think since the dawn of this game unless you messed with your brightness settings seeing beyond 3-4ft has been next to impossible without lights involved, so you likely had your brightness cranked up to max.

It seems like how the game handles your brightness setting has changed. Turning your brightness up all the way used to give you crystal clear nightvision, but now it works like it does in most other games.
Good tbh, if you had your brightness up before flashlights were detrimental since they'd make it harder to see, so you never would use one since you could already see clear as day. Brightness being like that also gave some players an unfair advantage over others, since not everyone realized that it works like that, and also not everyone is willing to flashbang themselves in the truck. Its definitely much better when you can't see well without a flashlight or room lights.

not sure exactly when but I can confirm the game has gotten darker than it used to be. I toyed around with my graphics driver settings as well as ingame brightness just to see how far I could push it and even with everything turned up, things that are supposed to be dark are still dark when turning up everything. So no cheesy night vision anymore. For the better in my opinion

Also things like room lights seem different too. some of them seem much brighter now when they're on.
the lightning has not only been made less cheesable it also looks better overall in my opinion.

You might have been using volumetric lighting in the past, which really helped light things up. It was removed in the VR update so they could tweak it for when they reintroduce fog in a future update.

The game is VERY dark without volumetric lighting. Best you can do is to turn up brightness just enough to make it manageable.

I agree. After one if the fairly recent updates it has been extremely dark. Darker than when I first joined which was only a few months ago.

agreed. my friend and i noticed this the other night. we were playing and it was so dark now even with the better flaslights that we just quit entirely. not even relatively enjoyable walking around in pitch darkness even when you have a good quality light (which will light up an entire room in reality - i understand this is a game but it's a putoff)

Highly doubt that the strong flashlights keep things too dark.

i used to able to see the color of house both house we about to enter and outside
but now
they all pitch black even my flashlight can not light them all
they probably update something

Did anyone find a solution already? A friend of mine has the same problem. Its super dark and like in the school map they couldnt see anything at all. They obviously dont want to mess with their brightness on their screen because in all other games its mostly okay. And they turned the brightness up all the way in game and it doesnt chage anything. Does anyone know what to do know and how we can fix this

Every game has different lightings, so "it's ok in other games" doesn't really mean anything. 1m is pretty much the intended radius for no flashlight/room lights on and even at highest radius you might not see very well without any lights on.

Though, if there's a bug with the lighting system, then that's a problem which might be fixable with repairing the game or updating the graphic drivers, but it is hard to tell with such limited informations.
