Anyone ever seen the Phantom's special ability?

Is this legit? I have never seen a duplicate of anyone walking around when Phantom is the ghost, hunting or otherwise.

As far as I heard it was planned as a feature and remnants can be found in the code but it was never really implemented.

It used to be in the game very early on, but no longer is.

The phantom would manifest as a random player in the game and walk towards a player. Its the exact same manifestation as when the ghost appears and walks towards you or the one where it just stands there, except it wouldn't cause the heartbeat noise. It was disabled in the code (just commented out if you know what that means in a coding sense) so it could be re-enabled in the future.

It was creepy because it could happen while you weren't looking and then you'd turn around and see one of your teammates coming towards you and then you'd see that same teammate enter the room behind themselves. Or you could be looking at and talking to one of your teammates and asking them why they were just standing there and then they'd disappear or ask you what you were talking about from another room.

Like Quivzness said, taking the form of a teammate was an *old* ability that hasn't been active in the game for nearly a year now. Looking in the journal, you'll see that this isn't mentioned anywhere in the journal - instead, the Phantom lowers an investigator's sanity when they look at it, and the Phantom is temporarily banished by taking its photo. I wonder if the OP was looking at an outdated wiki, perhaps?

In any case, I also think that it was an awesomely creepy ability, and hope it returns in some form in the future!

ive played since launch over 150 hours+ i have only seen this happen TWICE but it happened long ago and no idea if this was removed?

It was an old wiki yeah, I had a teleporting wraith for once and decided to look up the other abilities.

See your teammate walk at you, you leave thinking they were gonna do something there then you see your teammate walk into the building.

because as soon as it does it you know its a phantom... At least now you have to get a photo of it to find out its a phantom.

I would be super down for this. I'm fine with giving all the ghosts additional ways to mess with us, even if its not "thematic".

I have actually experienced this one time, and it was in my early career of this game. The rest of my team had me go wait in the haunted room alone to bait the ghost while they waited outside.

I had been in the room for quite some time at that point, and my nerves were shot to ♥♥♥♥, and I could hear my team talking to each other and laughing outside. All of a sudden, the bathroom door in that room opened, and out came, what looked like to be, my team mate.

He slowly started to walk towards me, and I thought it was my team mates messing with me, and I started laughing. And then I realized it couldn't have been my team mate, because there's only one way to get inside that bathroom and I would have seen it! He then disappeared in front of me.

That was my greatest and most terrifying moment I've had in this game, and I am sad that's never happened again.
