How do you play this?

Just bought this and playing in VR singeplayer. Not really sure what to use or when to use it.

I've gathered the flashlight seems to halt activity and the EMF will drop when it's on. I had a ghost appear in the kitchen at the table where the light was flashing red but that was the worst of two missions to the house.

It looks like I only have 3 objectives in the truck, but when I leave it shows like 5 or 6 objectives?

Just kind of confused having no prior knowledge of this game.

Never played the game in VR.

There is a tutorial, I don't see any reason for not being available in VR. It will teach you how to use the main gadgets.

Main Objective of every mission is just to identify the ghost. The three objectives in the truck are optional objective for more money and to do a Perfect Investigation if you also take ten 3stars photos and find the bone.

The other objectives your talking about I guess are the Daily and the Weekly objectives. Those are for bonus money too. You can also look at them on clipboards in the truck left of the billboard.

Flashlight main use is only to see in the dark. If it is ON while in your hand or on your shoulder it will atract the ghost while hunting like any other electronic devices active in your hand. Watch out.

about the number of objectives, each run there are technically 5 objectives:
- one is to find the correct ghost type, this is the main objective that primarely determines how much money you get
- one is to find the bone, a random object hidden somewhere in the house, this small bonus objective has very little impact on how much money you get
- and then there are the 3 random bonus objectives listed in the truck, which can significantly increase the amount of money you get if you also got the main objective correct (which is to determine the correct ghost)

in addition to that there are also daily and weekly objectives which are written on those clip boards, but they are less relevant for new players

about how to play:
the ghost will have a favorite room, it can roam outside of the favorite room but it will keep returning to it, so the favorite room will be the likeliest spot for the ghost to be at

what you want to do is find this room and then carry all your equipment there, as you are most likely to find evidence with the equipment near the ghost

- if the ghost interacts with something, the emf meter will go off and may show you a level 5 emf, this can be marked down as evidence in your book
- if the ghost touches something (door, window, light switch, salt on the floor), it may leave a UV trace that can be seen when shining a UV light on it, this can be marked down as evidence in your book
- if you place down a book (not sure what the controls for VR are here, if the book is correctly placed down it will open and have a pen on top of it), the ghost may be able to write in it if it is nearby the book, this can be marked down as evidence
- if you activate and speak into the spirit box next to the ghost in the dark, the ghost may be able to respond to you, this can be marked down as evidence
- if you have a video camera in the ghosts favorite room, and the room is dark and you are using nightvision, you may be able to see odd orb like artifacts in the video feed, this can be marked down as evidence
- if you check the temperature in the ghost room using a thermometer, you might notice temps of below the freezing point, this can be marked down as evidence
- if you place down a dots projector, the ghost may appear as an invisible figure inside the dots, this can be marked down as evidence

once you have 3 pieces of evidence marked down, the game will tell you the correct ghost tyoe in your journal, just mark that ghost and you have won the main objective

The primary objective, as others have mentioned, is to identify what kind of ghost you are dealing with.

Each ghost provides three evidence types, in a combination that is solely unique to them. You will always be given a full set of evidence identification gear for free, plus a flashlight to help you see; these are collectively called the "Starter Items", and will remain regardless of what happens during a given contract.

Some ghosts also have some more unique non-evidence tells and behaviors... but learning these comes with experience and aren't mandatory until you get into Nightmare Difficulty and beyond.
