Blood moon stages
What are you supposed to do with this debuff? We end up getting killed before we've even figured out where the ghost is even haunting, even on the smaller maps. I genuinely don't get it.

I would suggest lowering your regular difficulty by a level or using Customs to tailor the experience. Blood moon is a (rather unfriendly) weather type, but just like with the other types you're not supposed to be doing anything with said weather; it just is.

Any advice I could give you is the standard:
Make sure you turn the power on, use candles/room lights to maintain sanity & don't spam the Spirit Box (or leave it on in the center of the room on the floor). You can also have someone carry a Crucifix in hand (not just in your inventory slots, in your hand) to stop a roam hunt.

The room a ghost is in will always be the coldest room (regardless of if Freezing Temps is present or not) & your breath will be visible with power on. If the power starts off, you need time to let it warm up (and you can get that time sitting in the van, if need be). If the power starts on, whatever room is 19 (*or lower) will be the room you're looking for.

Telling new players to just use customs doesn't work out too hot because you don't unlock custom difficulty until level 50.

It just wasn't a good event to coincide with a huge influx of new players. Best advice is to avoid the blood moon maps until the event is over if you're having a hard time with them.

Your sanity rains much faster in the houses with the totems. Make sure to keep an eye on it.

...hence lower the difficulty OR use customs?
They're 47 hours in, said "we", and I'm not omnipotent... :captainclown:

Considering the devs intend to make this weather effect permanent, saying "don't" when they're asking how to deal with the weather effect is the opposite of helpful. The event wasn't even part of their question here x_x

That's what we ended up doing, yeah. Kind of a shame. Would've liked to play a "normal" game on the lighthouse map. Oh well. There's always a next time.

Oh, so the totems make it drain faster? That's good to know, thanks.

That's why I'm asking for input. We play this game every blue (or I guess red) moon. If you don't feel like being helpful maybe stfu.

Known or suspected effects of Blood Moon Weather:
Sanity drain +100%
Ghost speed +25%
Ghost roaming increased
Ghost events increased

The weather in general is not new player friendly, which is unfortunate given it released at basically the same time as the console version, so a ton of new players pop in to a much harder event.

Keep the breaker on and the lights on in the room(s) you are in. This will reduce or eliminate the sanity drain.
Try to avoid touching the ghost during events. Each time the ghost touches you during events, it reduces your sanity. Some events the ghost moves towards a player so it's best to run away, other times the ghost simply stands there.
If you are playing on professional or lower, the truck map will indicate where the breaker is, so check that before you go in and get that on quickly.

And lastly, if the blood moon weather is just too hard, you can always play on one of the non blood moon maps. Yes, that means you won't be contributing to the event, but if you aren't having fun playing the game, then what's the point?
Maybe try to join a public game with some people who will be willing to teach you more about the game and try that way?

Good luck

Oh wow, those are pretty severe debuffs. Explains a lot. Thanks for the concrete numbers, exactly what I wanted to know.

The red moon itself causes it, so you can't prevent the additional drain by deleting the totems.

In general the formula for normal weather is
- map drain rate * difficulty modifier
while the moons formula is
- map drain rate * difficulty modifier + map drain rate

small maps have a drain rate of 0,24 sanity per second or 0,12 on singleplayer, while the difficulty modifier is 1 for amateur , 1,5 for intermediate and 2 for professional or higher (these are the low/medium/high-drain rates on the custom difficulties)

Also the blood moon raises the ghost speed by 15 % (not 25 %) after calculating the ghost speed modifier of the difficulty in, so some cheat sheets with build in metronome might not be 100% accurate on this.

new players? no way just level up and learn about ghosts or team up with veteran

I would suggest using video camera, thermo and EMF to help locate the room. Once the room is found you should drop all you have in the room and get more items you need to fill the evidence. When you do get more items, I recommend you take a smudge or two to defend yourself and the team. When you smudge the ghost, be sure to run and hide somewhere. The ghost can not hurt you when it is smuged so you can run past/thru it.
