but to be honest it was probably just gonna be a lame floating red moon or some crap, anyway. sour grapes :/
I hope they just never do an event like that again (or at least find a better way) and the people who invested time and collected points do get the trophy or smth else even if the goal isn't reached cuz this rn is just trash..
Even then, we should keep in mind that this event was going to have some measure of trial and error in regards to the event progression being a good pace... After all, this is literally the first time they are attempting a community event like this.
In other words - don't worry about it too much I think. This is their first ever community event, so things were never guaranteed to be handled perfectly to begin with.
For one, it was intentionally made really high to be able to adjust it later.
For two, none of the points we have grinded were lost.
They didn't tamper with the total amount gained, they just adjusted the total amount required and that caused the percentage to spike.
It also didn't take a week, they updated it just a few days later.
This community event was bound to fail for these reasons:
1 - Devs putting too much faith into new console players completing all objectives, finding the ghost type and taking all photos; Most of these players just die and leave the game half way through it, never contributing with points.
2 - Most of these new players don't care enough about the event and they just want to play on normal maps. So these players aren't contributing with enough points.
3 - Not enough encouragement for Veteran/Old players to carry those new players throghout the event; even when carrying new players, they just die and leave the match anyways.
4 - No individual event progress means everyone gets the same rewards, so most players are just adrifting from the event by playing on normal maps.
I wouldn't be surprised if they also overshot expected numbers for Xbox. Xbox has a huge issue for publishers where players there don't buy games, they only play Game Pass, so anything not on Game Pass basically undersells a ton when compared to expectations based on install base.
Like I feel that point needs to be stressed; this is their first community event ever - it should have gone without saying that they weren't going to nail everything perfectly with something they've never done before.
These sorts of systems need user feedback and prior experience to really be good... and they had neither to work with this time around. If they do another community event... it is almost assuredly going to be better, as they can use this experience as a foundation to improve them.
I doubt they'd intentionally fail everyone, but exactly WHAT they'll do remains to be seen. My money's on a last day point adjustment if people don't abruptly reorganise reality through sheer grit.
For next time, they will be able to readjust the percentage better and I hope that, if there are several stages, they will make them different objectives per stage, and that each day will have different maps to make the event more enjoyable. In this case, doing the same thing over and over again becomes boring and very possibly, many experienced players will also leave.
