The early phasmo was spooky as everyone was in honey moon phase, but the gameplay was very bare bone and the game very easy once you got the hand on it :
-Enter the building, find the cold room
-Stack up evidences
-Run in straight line in case of obvious chase because ghost can't catch you (unless revenant).
Today's game is far more challenging and interesting, but also more confusing :
You actually need to deduce the ghost by behavior sometimes because the 3 evidences becomes too hard to finds depending how the run goes.
You need to be very cautionous since chase are less obvious and more deadly
You got lot's more tools and possibilities than before.
All in one, the game drastically changed, and i now closer to a mix between reflexion and horror than the party game it was, for the better or the worst.
Agreed, souls level hard is not accurate, however it was souls level frustrating (and I've beaten Demon souls and Dark Souls 1-3).....and the ghost did start hunting every single game. We played 5 or 6 games on amateur and they all went the same. New game so no money, starting with the default load out which is one flashlight for the 3 of us (why is a flashlight not default for everyone?). Creep around the house looking for evidence trying to keep the lights on. Get 1 piece of evidence maybe, ghost hunts and kills 1 of us. 2 left keep looking maybe get another piece of evidence, maybe not, ghost hunts and kills another (like within seconds of the hunt starting, there seemed to be little to no time to run and or hide?). Last player goes in, dead in no time. The fuse box in each game went out probably 2-4 times before we were all dead, we went 0-6......so apparently we suck badly but to me amateur wasn't all that easy and should allow "newbies" to learn a little easier....like someone said maybe the difficulty was spiked due to Halloween, who knows but with so many other options out there why bother?
Ghost hunts (with one single exception) are always tied to sanity.
There are some ghosts that can start hunting as early as 70%, most usually start hunting at around 50% AVERAGE sanity (very important). Easy mode also has a 5 second grace period from when the hunt is triggered to when the ghost can actually kill, usually plenty of time to start running.
I'd be very curious to see actual gameplay from this.
Rose tinted glasses. The game has never really changed. It has been years of sidesteps in content and changes; not any progression forward in any meaningful way. It's the exact same game.
