You need to NOT be in the same room as the Goryo, and you need to be looking through a cam. That is the general idea.
The only thing I can say for certain, is that it does work atm, allthough it RARELY shows it.
I had it show dots on cam just today, I was standing outside of the ghost room, with a cam in hand looking through the door, and the DOTS appeared.
So might be bugged, but it does show, at some point.
The ghost can not hide evidence when it has a special version of it. So a goryo can never hide the DOTS evidence, because it has a special version of the DOTS evidence (requires a camera to see it, and needs no one in the room). Or an obake and UV evidence (due to possibility of an extra finger or fingerprint).
Dots from a Goryo is only guaranteed on Nightmare or Insanity.
There's nothing wrong with Goryo. I think Kinetic just didn't give the Goryo a high interaction rate with dots since it's one of those "boring" ghosts that don't do much. And that interaction rate is an RNG roll of the dice each contract.
I detected a Goryo using the camera only the other day. You have to set a camera up with a DOTS projector and then return to the truck to watch the live feed. If it's a Goryo you'll see an unusual disturbance in the DOTS projection. It's unique and easy to miss.
