The ghost also has to be within range, so watch for things getting thrown or other interactions, then go stand where that happened to use the spirit box.
If on a higher difficulty, one or more evidences will be hidden. So even if the ghost is supposed to give spirit box, it might not actually do so.
it really comes down to the stupid pigeon-holing logic game (its not x, therefore its y) not being a good choice for dynamic gameplay expected from a supernatural encounter. i dont see how my clear documentation of my experience is not good enough because I didn't resolve the tic-tac-toe tier philosophy correctly and guess the ghosts' pronouns without dying. very arcadey, always has been.
Complaining about pronouns is inappropriate, but also just paints you as the intolerant individual that you are.
That said, for this to work:
- you've to be understood by the SB (it tells if it recognized something)
- be within the range of the ghost talking (depending on SB-Tier), this is often the easiest to mess up
- have lights switched off in the room you're standing (not the ghost is in, that is irrelevant). This includes all small lights like desk lamps as well
- if you're playing MP and the ghost is shy, you've to be the only player in the room (doesn't matter, if the ghost is in another room with another player)
- in case of higher difficulty settings it must not be hidden
- and if all of the above has been done, then it's not a 100 % chance, but a roll, which you can obviously also miss multiple times in a row (so don't just test it once or twice, but multiple times throughout the investigation, you're waiting anyway, so nothing to loose here)
The initial game was quite boring and the only difficulty derived from not knowing the quite easy rules of ghost behavior (like being 100 % safe on 11 of the 12 ghosts due to being able to loop infinitely isn't really that much of a challenge)
Other than that, it's not random as many players and especially content creators have shown over the years. We can help you with concepts and technique, if you've problems with particular evidences or behavior, but if you're just using weaponized incompetence to attack the game, then my only advice is "get good".
What would you want it to be? Something like "I don't know what it is, because the game doesn't tell me anything, so i've to guess x"?
I don't see where it is engaging to be subject to complete randomness to a point, that there are no rewards for knowledge, but only prizes for being lucky. I mean you're entitled to like this kind of gameplay, but that's definitely not what most Phasmo-Players are looking for.
