The default controls working for everything is a requirement for full Steam Deck verification, which this game has (somehow).
The default controls for this game, however, do not let you navigate the options menu entirely.
Luckily Steam asks if your experience with a specific game meets Steam Deck Verification standards, and I kept this installed on my Deck just long enough for that questionnaire to appear so that I could answer "No", then I uninstalled it.
Unfortunately, it doesn't ask you what part of the game fails the standard.
Controllers, in general, are very messy. As mentioned, the menus are usually impossible to navigate. I've noticed sometimes while in options, you'll actually be controlling the menu behind it. Trying to adjust settings is laughable, usually you can't navigate to the right side to scroll or switch the option, such as push to talk. You can't back out of the current screen most times. When playing with a controller, I have to basically play hybrid with kbm. I haven't used the built-in controls for the steam deck, but used a controller plugged into it with same results. I've tried with both PS5 and Xbox Series X controllers, there's no difference. I hope it gets fixed, I really want to play with a controller since I have difficulty with kbm.
