Though the game prevents you from starting Phasmo, if you've cheat enghines running, which to many who try to cheat looks like they've already been banned. If that's the case for you, close it completely.
Otherwise, if that wasn't the case, then it must be something else, like being toxic or using glitches without consent of the group.
That would just mean that if he was banned, it wasn't a ban through Steam.
That's not how Steam works, they can't just ban people on the devs behalf. It's rather the dev who can decide to tell Steam, that a game ban has been handed out and that's what the Phasmo devs do for permanent bans. Steam then just only shows on the profile page of a user, how many game bans they have and when the last game ban was applied (also this not be confused with Valves VAC-system, which is listed seperately from game bans)
From the way others have talked, Phasmo doesn't ban through Steam at all. They just ban you from their public servers. You can still play the game, just not multiplayer. Steam has nothing to do with that at all. Its all handled by Kinetic Games. Such a ban does not appear on your Steam profile, because Steam is never involved.
Well, then i guess Valve doesn't understand how their own programs work and they should rather let you write their FAQ-section?

More specifically btw this portion:
So they in fact are shown on the Steam profile, if it is a permanent ban, that got communicated by the devs to Steam. There are obviously also game bans, that don't show on Steam, if the devs decide to not do that, but Phasmo is definitely doing it, since they have a 0-tolerance policy for cheating and modding. You can look up any actually banned cheater in the Phasmo threads and their last game ban usually date like 1-2 days back from the thread.
Though keep in mind, that many people get confused by the start-up protection, which is obviously not a ban, but rather the game trying to prevent people from accidentally cheating, which is obviously not a proof of the game not communicating game bans to Valve.
