Game wont launch in VR? Only PC Mode - Oculus Quest 2 - SOLVED -

SOLVED 2/23/2024 :

After some Troubleshooting, I finally found the problem.

Something with the recent update must've screwed something up with the OPENXR runtime settings for the game.

Steam VR Fix:
Open Steam VR ---> Settings --> OpenXR ---> SET STEAMVR AS OPENXR RUNTIME

This fixed the issue with Steam VR not working, but as i said, i dont like to use Steam VR, and doing this trick, the game still didnt launch on the Meta app like i like it too, so this is how i fixed that...

Meta App Fix:
Open Meta App --> Settings --> General --> Set Meta Quest Link as Active OPENXR Runtime--> Unknown Sources checked --> Beta --> Restart Meta Quest Link

That fixed the issue of the game not running on the Meta, for the game to run on Steam VR, you need to set active OPENXR runtime on Steam vr, and if you want it to run on meta app, you need to set OPENXR Runtime on Meta app, than reset. The game used to be able to Run both without having to set one to default OPENXR Runtime, but recent update broke that and now you need to set one and and be happy with it,

If you want to play in Steam VR after doing this,
Open Steam --> Phasmophobia --> PLAY --> Launch Phasmophobia in Steam VR mode

If you want to play in Meta app
Open Steam --> Phasmophobia --> PLAY --> Play Phasmophobia in VR (exc. Steam Home)

Checkmark "Always use this option" With whichever option you choose, if you try to launch the game in Meta Quest via Air Link, and try to launch in Steam VR, it launches in PC mode unless you checkmark to always use the option.

ORIGINAL PROBLEM:

I'm trying to play phas in PCVR, and even when i hit "Play" on steam, and choose VR, the game still launches in PC mode.

I've tried Launching with Steam VR, Launching Excluding Steam VR,
i even tried launching the game whilst in VR via Steam VR, I did all the basic troubleshooting like Uninstalling and Reinstalling, nothing.

Tried Launching from Icon on homescreen, still PC, I've also tried setting it to "always launch in Steam VR" and tried using the homescreen icon, still didnt work.

Ive played this game "EXCL Steam VR" as Steam VR is pretty rough with Oculus Quest, and i got major lag, so i always played the game without using Steam VR, so if there is a possible fix to allow me to play the game "Excluding Steam VR" that would be great.

The game worked perfectly a month ago, I've tried googling around and couldn't find a solution. the game just wont launch in VR no matter what i try. every time i hit "Launch in VR" it just launches in normal PC mode

Im trying to play on Oculus Quest 2, i tried setting the Meta app to allow games from unknown sources, which it was already ticked, but i unchecked it and checked it again, still nothing.

when im in Steam VR, and i launch the game, i get the "Loading Phasmophobia" window, but than when i pull up my monitor in VR, the game launched in PC mode, not VR.

Its not an Oculus quest issue, or a Steam VR issue, being that all my other VR games launch and play flawlessly, it is only a Phasmo issue.

I literally only play this game in VR, its the most Immersive Horror game ive found so far for Virtual Reality, and since it stopped working in VR, I have not touched it, and i really want to get back into it.

any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

just tried it with my quest 2 and for me it works perfectly fine with steam vr (well with some framerate issues, but still in vr)
maybe something is wrong with your installation after the recent update? have you tried verifying the integrity of your files (right click on the game, then properties)
if that doesnt work, have you tried reinstalling the game?

Wow, thank you for figuring this out. Hadn't played in a few years and it used to launch fine from the Meta Link home. I spent a few hours trying to figure out how to get the game to launch, it kept getting stuck at "Initializing" with two dots. Tried various settings, reinstalling, verifying files, and I even reinstalled the Meta Link software.

Your answer worked and was easy to follow.

Now if only I can fix the performance, because the posts I've found for that are not helping either...
