I use Text and it's working faaaaar better, try it
Usually when my Spirit Box fails to work, changing the voice recognition from VOSK to Windows may be enough... things like accents might be hard to pick up... but the worst case scenario is that you can use Text like SIlver suggested (although I do not personally recommend it, as you not only lose the ability to move while using the question menu, but it also seems to further mess up future voice recognition attempts once you go back to one of the other two)
Failing that, I've had fairly consistent success in fixing my own issues by tinkering with my Sound Control Panel (this can be opened by right clicking your Taskbars volume display, then opening "Sounds"; it should also be noted that this is a multi-tabbed window, so be sure to cycle over to the 'Recording' tab to find your microphone)
Once that is open and on the correct tab, there should be a few disabled sources that you obviously don't use. Enable one of those temporarily, make that source the default device (and the default communications device for good measure)... hit apply, then put both defaults back to your preferred microphone, re-disable the source you enabled for this little reset, and hit apply again.
This all aside, one also has to keep in mind that the T1 spirit box will only actually answer a question 33% of the time, with the higher tiers respectively giving a 50% and 67% response rate instead (this parameter information can be found/viewed in-game within the shop/equipment UI, among other things like its effective range)... so it may take awhile even if everything is working properly.
Finally, the games Official Trello alludes that they may will changing the underlying voice system from Photon Voice to Vivox Voice Chat... likely launching alongside Point Hope Lighthouse (although this is an assumption on my part) - however, this might simply be a change so that the system will be compatible with the upcoming console ports, and thus it may have no bearing at all on the overall quality of the voice recognition going forward.
Exactly this. I spam click all three responses like crazy and Spirit Box pops pretty dang fast, if its there.
this is another really good thought! People I talk to often don't realize lights must be off and that some ghosts get shy with more than one person in the room.
I had no end of issues, until i uninstalled it , and it work better than ever now.
Firstly, it sounds like you're not new to this, but just to cover the basics - you had the lights in the room off when you were trying to use the box?
What tier were you using? T1 has a much smaller response range (you have to be closer to the ghost) and a much lower response rate (only responds 20% of the time or something dumb like that). Also, the T1 visual indicator (white light) is a bit harder to interpret if it actually understood your question. T2 box with the X indicator is very nice for that.
And finally, were you asking where the ghost was? This is pretty important because the ghost isn't always in its favorite room. Again, it seems like you aren't new to this so I'm going to assume you've got the basics covered, but it's important to do the spirit box around recent interactions for the best success chance.
However, it does seem clear after reading you all that it may be a number of different other things as well.
I swirched to text input with the apirit box and haven't had trouble ever since!
Thanks again!
That, or the DOTS are considered as a light-source.
