I came back from a break and saw no new maps and my favorite map "reworked", but I do enjoy the shop now, only took a couple awful attempts. The games been really fun to play in bursts.
Updates have always been slow with these blokes. But it does seem to be a tad worse than a turtle fighting through tree sap at this point.
Most Early Access games should be enjoyed in measured sips. I think developers rarely ever have or stick to a development schedule that will appease any but the die hard fans. People are stuck with the mindset of "Early Access = live service game I can expect seasonal events and calculated updates from"
Early Access "Road Maps" are just promises of effort. Lots of these indie developers get to enjoy the flexibility of no deadlines set by business men up top that will rip away their jobs if they fail.
With that flexibility you get a trade off though, the passion you fan for your fans is controlled by how well you follow your development plan, if you even choose to share it to begin with.
In short, you'll be far happier if you don't treat an Early Access title like a Live Service Subscription MMO project. Literally just play it til you get bored, shelve it, and have zero hopes. Next time you get the itch to play the game and pick it up, it will....
1. Improved and be a better more enjoyable experience.
2. Remain the same like any game used to back in the day, they were completed projects.
3. Shamed themselves into failure and you can play through the remains.
1. Horror 2.0 is the last item before 1.0 because it needs a stable and complete foundation to be deployed to. Jumping the gun and trying to fix everything after that is launched would be a horrible mistake.
2. New maps are coming. If you cared to read the roadmap it would’ve been easy to figure out.
3. Sure it makes sense to port to consoles after 1.0. That’s honestly what I would’ve done as a dev, but alas I am not a dev on this team and they deemed it necessary. VR does need to be fixed regardless of how you feel. It’s a PC platform so this is required for 1.0.
4. Lmao mod support is not happening for a wide variety of reasons I will not repeat here. This dead horse has been beaten too much already.
You ever get tired of whiteknighting at this point? People have valid complaints and no amount of you keeping your head in the sand will change that.
People have NO valid complaints. It's clearly stated in the EULA that you're on the dev team's schedule, and at their mercy. People just complain because they literally have nothing better to do.
Complaining that the Devs should focus on what the OP thinks the game needs is a "valid complaint"?
Making an objectively wrong statement about "what others enjoy" is a "valid complaint"?
Asking for the workshop, which is hilariously outdated, in a game where Modding is a strict no, as per the EULA? THAT is what you think is a "valid complaint"?
This is projection. You are whiteknighting the OP. If the OP wasn't being a dunce, he could have checked the Roadmap that's pinned, and proceeded to use the Trello, that is also pinned, to check on the state of things. Instead, you're here defending his laziness.

Point Hope has now been in "beta testing" for 2 months - it would really help people to get a grasp of progress (to set expectations) if there were actual progress indicators on the tasks. I did point this out of the discord and was told that they couldn't update progress as it could vary from 80% one day to 30% the next.... now if there is such massive variation and inability to manage progress to such a huge extent then it shouldn't even be in beta testing (although I can give the benefit of the doubt that the comment was perhaps partly exaggerated).
Other tasks are similarly not updated, eg,"Farmhouse Reworks" has a "Concept/whitebox" task that isn't marked as complete but then that was actually included on one of the updates so must be "complete". There's little point of providing such a view of development if it isn't going to have any useful detail - so don't please don't suggest using the Trello for any meaningful guide to progress.
I understand that it's a small team of developers and there are limits to what they can produce. I presume they are working on this full time rather than fitting it around "day jobs" and as such, unless there is a lot that they're keeping hidden then progress is abysmally slow.
Their development should have realistic set goals that they are working to, rather than just some vague roadmap that they've got no incentive to actually stick to. It does seem from the outside that they are just drifting along and not actually making much progress.
I love the game and do keep coming back for more - even in the state it's currently in. It's a real shame that they haven't released actual additional maps and content for such a long time as I do think the longer they leave it the more chance they have of something else taking its place.
If it takes such a long time to create just one single map then either it must be a really complicated and fantastic map that will be worth the wait - or they have a serious design problem where the maps are taking so much manual effort to build and debug as to make it infeasible to add any significant additional content in the future in the state they are in and it needs a complete overhaul/redesign. I'm hoping it isn't the second option.
Considering that they are fully intending to make their own game assets from now on, it would be valid to say that there would be a lot of debugging going on, as they may also be giving each custom asset their own collision hit box, and they want to be sure that everything behaves/interacts properly with each other.
One also has to keep in mind that they are very likely going to be paying a lot more attention to the maps overall performance this time around as well... so as to make sure it will be a smooth play experience even on the upcoming console ports.
So theoretically for one programmer or engineer for fours years worth of work it would cost em $960,000.
The game has made about $212.6 million in sales.
The game has a small team. Even using a team of 10 as an example ((not the actual size of the team throughout the years)) for four years using the averages above it would have been a cost of 9.6 million.
There are of course a plethora of other costs that go into keeping a game updated and operational but even still....203 million dollars out there to fund their operations....
You'd hope they wouldn't need to resort to plushies to keep the lights on already.
A question for you: Would you be satisfied, if they declare it being "finished" after the next major update, knowing very well that they would need at least 1 additional year to fullfill some of the bigger roadmap goals?
I'll never understand people, who buy an early access title and then being surprised about why it is still in development. A 1.0-version number is just an arbitrary milestone, that doesn't really change anything other than getting rid of the early access-plaque on the shop page.

I for an instance are more interested in stuff that is actually relevant gameplay wise. graphical stuff is nice to have, but that will last for maybe 1-2 weeks and then it's all about gameplay again, so i'm totally fine with having this being the last point, if they polish the item balancing and reworking/releasing new maps first.
I actually like Sunny Meadows. Nothing what i would play every day half the day, but i don't hate it, just because you want me to.
Things are balanced around the average player. Just because a minority exploits stuff doesn't mean, that the majority should get punished for it.

we've had the same core maps for many years, surely creating a 1-2 floor house can't be a years worth of effort...
