Ghost Throwing Writing Book
So I have been under the impression if the ghost throws the book and does not write in it its not ghost writing. Just had a game my book was thrown i believe twice but did not write in it so I crossed it out but that ended up being the last evidence I needed. Is this a bug or was I just under the wrong impression about the ghost interacting with the writing book?

This answer honestly depends on the difficulty you were playing on.

Professional or lower - the ghost, if it has writing, can start tossing the book -after- it writes in it. I forget if tossing the book closes it or not, but it's best to set it down and recheck regardless to be sure after witnessing it get tossed.

Nightmare or higher - even if a ghost normally writes, it can toss the book around without writing in it if it had decided to hide that evidence. That's one of the big things honestly regarding these reduced evidence runs - you can't get negative information via evidence items not giving you their evidence (in other words, you can't cross out any evidence just because it is not showing up)

Either way, not a bug so much as possibly user error on your part, as unfortunate as that may be to hear.

does this still apply with the weekly challenge? Right after posting this I went back in to play another round and my journal was still filled out from the last contract which is definitely a bug but it was only on my journal not my friend
That all depends on the Weekly Challenge - sometimes it is reduced evidence, other times you can get all three.

In this weeks case.... Sanity Survival... it blatantly tells you in the challenge description that this is using a preset based on Nightmare difficulty, which means that the ghost is going to be randomly hiding one of its three evidence. So yeah, not a bug, you just got tripped up... it happens.

If it helps you any, in reduced evidence runs there are some ghosts who are unable to hide a certain evidence due to having unique interactions with it... for example, a Deogen will never be able to hide its Spirit Box evidence due to it's unique heavy breathing response. It should also be noted that... no matter how many evidences are set to be hidden... the Mimic cannot hide its fake ghost orbs, as that is not one of its actual evidence types.

From the Dec 11 Update:

The Ghost-writing book is now throwable by the ghost if the ghost does not give ghost-writing evidence
