Developer failing the roadmap.
I see that there is a lot of promises made to 2023 and only half of them got delivered.
"New player models, new player customization, cctv overhaul...."

Why don't the developer use the money to hire people who know better game design to help him, instead of making empty promises?
I have 580 hours of phasmophobia and the game seems the same since it's release. Most of the "overhauls" were some lame stuff. The only new things i've seen are the DOTS and the Item levels (that aren't impressive because they do the same thing, just better)...
The rest isn't something that makes the gameplay loop better...

Ask chat GPT for ideas or anything...
the gameplay loop is dead for veterans. there's no reason to play the game after 100 hours because you'll probably have enjoyed everything it had to offer.

There were a LOT of issues that occurred months after they made last years roadmap - Ascension was delayed for an unknown reason... Sony was a lot stricter with their requirements to approve consoles than they initially thought and it took them months of work on... and that is still not met (apparently a self admission from them via the official discord)... a literal fire broke out at their old office (announced via social media) and they were forced to move to a different building despite having no equipment damage (development preview)

SO YEAH - safe to say that last year had nothing go to plan... hell, some of it was legitimately impossible to predict happening in the first place. It's probably the primary reason why the current iteration of the roadmap does not have any time predictions... to which that was probably the right call.

dont spend money on promises

"I see a lot of promises blah blah..."

This is actually why, per the developer end terms/rules of Early Access, Developers are Not Supposed To Give Dates For ANYTHING. Because you never know what will go wrong, whether plans will fall through, whether it will be harder than you thought, etc.

Take ANY roadmap, EA or not, with a teaspoon of salt and understanding.

Roadmaps aren't promises, they're plans and estimations and as such, can change throughout the development phase if needed. If they would've stick to it because "we've said so", then we probably would've an unplayable, buggy game with very unpolished prototype features. That was ok like 3 years ago, but with the current size of the playerbase that would turn into a desaster.

And name whatever you want, chances are high that the devs have already thought about it. ChatGPT isn't as good in creative work as you might think and if you really need to resort to it for creative work, then it's probably better to stop working in a creative job altogether.

There is no guarantee that a larger team would result in faster production. A larger team would require onboarding which would take time. It would also require someone to manage the team which would likely end up being DK who may not want to or feel up to that kind of management. The way DK has built the team has seemed really purposeful up until this point - people he knows, has worked with and is friends with. I imagine this makes the onboarding process easier (if you know the people you're hiring you know what they're capable of) and a smaller team easier to manage, allowing DK to still have time for coding the game.

Project management is tough and I don't envy DK. I think his previous optimism continues to bite him in the ass and I'm glad they stopped promising timelines.

Totally agree, I used to play it a lot back in the day.

As for now, things are not moving at all and if we got new updates, well.. there are nothing major, small bug fixes and nerfing items or hiding spots or ban people.

If they allowed modding, the game will get much further.

The POINT here is so simple but true unfortunately,, devs are Lazy to work on the game.
You have everything in your hand but nah Ex: New map being worked on for years, one map only ! :p

Note:
If not for LC, you wouldn't see the last updates in short time.

You still need to make those models, ensure they work with the animations andimplement them. Add to this that their intent was to give players greater customization... so no, it's not just "changing the 3D models".

At this point you could easily be a millionaire, if you can pump out 3D models so fast, that you can phrase it like it only takes a few days per model.

i feel like there's nothing they can add to satisfy you. I wouldn't be surprised, that if they release 3 maps in the next month, that some people come around and ask, why it weren't 5, why the ghost models still look the same and why the animations are still not reworked.

This is a battle the devs can't win anyway, so it's best for them to concentrate onto the actually important things: Quality.

If it was as simple as hiring more people then they would've done that already. And, even then, you got to go through the whole application process, interviews, onboarding, etc, which can take a long time depending on who they need for what.

People need to get this idea that it's solely an understaffing issue out of their heads.

100 hours out of an EA game is impressive on its own.

those processes don't take over 8 months....
its a matter of 4 days or 5 for a small company to get a decent person. its like that in real life. when we are stuck on internet we dont realize that its fast but it is. it may cost some time but over the time its compensated by the quality of the product: quality thats not seen in phasmo.

true. people only defend this game because they are currently enjoying it. i have more game time than 3 people here together. the game isnt bad but it's slow development made me quit. the game loop is the same since he added DOTS back in 2021

At no point are the Devs required to bring more people on board. It's their project and their vision, and frankly, they're allowed to go at whatever speed they desire. If you disagree with how they run things, you're welcome to stop playing and go create your own project with your own visions and ideas.

This is a great example of someone who needs to stop buying EA products. Stick with AAA if you want rushed and broken content. They'll be MORE then happy to take your money and leave you ready to consooome their next rushed project.
