IR sensor as a light source abuse?
I feel like it is not that critical of an abuse.
I like the idea of having at least some kind of a light source that won't degrade by some reason(candles are limited by time and ghosts hate them. Flashlights flicker during hunts and are a spotlight type - not the best kind of a light source). That leaves two glowsticks as the only valid source of light, which I think is:
A) not enough
B) inability to mount them on a wall makes them less useful.
That is where IR as lightsources come into play - they can be dropped on a floor, on a table, or mounted on a wall or left in hand as an electronic candle.

But, my question is to you guys:
How do you feel about that abuse? Would you accept it being used casually?
Can I feel safe using it when I join your lobby? :Batcat:

I get what your saying, but ive played hundreds of matches/games, playing with loads of people and watched hundreds of total hours of Streams of people playing Phasmo. Know how many times ive seen IR sensors as a "light source" worth using? NONE lol. Have i seen them used as intentional (not exploited), sure, but they are useless. Everyone takes a torch. Anyone who doesnt is weird, but i wouldnt kick them or anything, just laugh. :lunar2019grinningpig:

Does having this light source even matter much? Where would it help before sanity drops too much for the lights being on to matter? Even if it's a Mare or a Jinn which would usually imply powerbox switched off, it would still be dark outside of the sensors' range. Even glitching it might not be worth the time wasted to bring it where you wanted to place it.

I never even touch those. And those don't even stay on -- isn't that just as good as flickering, which is just as good as torches? They still occupy an inventory space, so... ???

you can glitch them into being always on

Well, it is a light of source that:
- doesn't flicker during hunts
- ghosts cannot put it off
- doesn't have a duration limit, unlike candles
- is available in plenty, compared to glowsticks
- can be placed on walls, compared to both glowsticks and candles.

But, it doesn't prevent sanity loss.

I imagine those can be the usage cases:
- Placing around the hallways and hiding spots allows for less issues orienting in darkness during hunts.
- Combined with glowsticks, can be used as navigation marks.
- Even though it has a seemingly low light radius - you can still use it to see the ghost in long halls(as a silhouette infront of them). Perfect safety measure just in case the breaker goes out, and just enough to make a ghost photo.

But, yeah, bringing even 2 of them might be troublesome in certain runs.

Oh, so it doesn't even prevent sanity loss? Sounds even less useful than I thought. Using them for navigation is mainly worth it before you more or less memorize the map (even then, I guess it would only be actual on Prison or Asylum). Thus, it would only help in orienting in the dark - for important chokepoints. Still, not sure if it's really worth wasting the time with multiple trips there and back again to make use of the amount of these permanent lights.

I play publics a lot and even when we have a guy who loaded up literally everything, almost no one bothers with the IR lights. I've only had one match I can think of where they were actually rather useful. It was Tanglewood, ghost was a mare in the laundry room between kitchen and garage. Tiiiiiny little room with a ghost that loves to murder you when it's dark....boom IR light, problem solved (well, mostly, crucifix helps a lot to.) Had a lot of time to get all the pictures, optionals, and whatever else we wanted. Also planted a few along the hallway and one by the garage locker in case of a hunt.
