- EMF 5 can be determined with high confidence from the truck activity monitor if nobody else is in the building.
- Find a good hiding spot in each area of the map that you go straight to as soon as you notice that it is hunting. Do this before searching for it's room.
- There are 2 side doors (one on each side) that are usually safer to use than the main door
- Where the ghost starts hunting from is probably it's room, although for most I didn't even find the room, only the general area.
- Drop flashlights pointing to your hiding spot. Good for both light and seeing when the ghost is hunting near you.
- Glowstick is a safe light source.
- You can't toggle the lights when it is hunting, even if breaker is off. This is a good way to determine whether a ghost is hunting, or when a hunt has finished.
- The ghost will always turn off all lights (but not breaker) when it finishes hunting.
- Learn the hunting behaviours of the ghosts, like speed or other special characteristics and you can often guess what it is from this.
- You don't need to survive, if you get the ghost right it will count for completion. You won't lose any gear from dying.
- Jinn can ruled out or strongly implied by leaving the breaker on while you are in the truck, then going and doing something else for 30 mins or so and coming back.
- You might not be able to get it every time. Sometimes you can get it down to 2 or 3 and just have to take a guess.
So in your mind the only way it can be a challenge is by ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around with the ghost movement speeds? There's no other way to make it challenging? None at all?
If I skip this week's challenge, will next week's challenge be different?
I've been doing the last 2 weeks challenge modes. They seem to get progressively harder. Is this how it works - they get harder as I complete more weekly challenge modes? Or is there a list of weekly challenge modes that it cycles through?
These are generally good practices.
I have yet to find out the good hiding spots in this map. I might need to play it brightly lit, with high sanity for a while to get a good idea.
Also, good point about using the side doors. I've been using those for exit, not so much for entry.
When I enter, and the ghost starts hunting just after I turned on a few hallway lights, I see which lights flicker to guess which direction the ghost room is. And then I scramble to find a possible hiding spot. Sometimes i'm so far away from the ghost that I simply waited for the hunt to be over in front of the main door.
use essence to delay the hunts. also u can use the hunts to pinpoint where it comes from
I recommend using the microphones if it's multiplayer, because you can listen to it hunting someone else safely. But when I was solo I didn't find them very useful for this challenge. The hunts give away it's general location before you'd find it with the microphones. I found the parabolic wasn't very useful either. Both parabolic and microphones are really good for finding the ghost on this map if it wasn't the challenge mode.
Also why do we even get sanity meds when they do nothing?
Aside from that, I generally play with a couple friends so our basic game plan for this challenge is to send one person in on one of the side entrances, duck into the first classroom, and wait for it to hunt. The others will be watching the security cameras in the truck to try to see it in a hallway. If we can see it, we get a general idea on where the ghost room is. The next step is to deploy some sound sensors near that area to try to hear the ghost during a hunt, which can help identify it based on speed or noise. Dropping a tripod and camera can help get better angles on where exactly it's coming from, as well.
Depending on the ghost and how lucky we've been, normally we're all still alive at this point and can start trying to get evidence or guess and go, depending on how we're feeling.
As a note, I haven't had time to do this challenge this round, so I'm not sure how the equipment tiers have impacted things.
Thaye - Will be super fast with no line of sight speed up.(Careful cause moroi is also fast but with line of sight its revenant speed)
Moroi - At 0 sanity it should be close to the speed of a thaye. This ghost will speed up fast in line of sight.
Revenant - If it sounds slower than normal speed, its this loser but don't get in line of sight or your screwed.
Wraith - Wait for a hunt and see if it paths near you. If it does get some salt, put it all over the ground and after it hunts again just check the salt.
Twins - Noticed it was fast one second then slow the next, could be these guys.
Deogen - You tried to hide but it found you being shaggy from scooby doo and it slowly approaches you. You got the winner ghost.
I found a host in public lobby who wanted to do weekly challenge mode (although he had already finished it 3x), and two other randoms were willing to go along.
I also found out that the weekly challenge mode is the same for everyone!
Anyway, stories:
First round, I died early. But I could see where the ghost spawned. So I added the random host and used steam chat messages. They eventually found most of the evidence and identified a yurei. Didn't bother with the breaker this round. It was in an inconvenient room upstairs.
Second round, right after I went to turn on the breaker, I experienced a few hunts. By the time I managed to exit, my teammate told me that they found 6 fingers on a handprint. So we identified an obake without finding the ghost room.
Third round, I found the ghost room. But it kept hunting and killed 2 teammates by the time we got a few tools in the room. Then it got me, and they told me it was fast near electronics and slow when it was upstairs. So I messaged the host. We identified a raiju.
In all three rounds, I noticed that my teammates could generally outrun the ghost by running through hallways?! Isn't there the exhaustion effect?! Anyway, I can confirm the ghost mainly roamed the hallways - as someone else mentioned. By chance it checks out a few rooms as well.
Was fun!
