Dying in tanglewood basement safe spot
Ok I think there may be a glitch with the tangle wood basement boarded hiding spot as I have died 2 times in back to back games. Flashlight off, no head cam, crucifix near, and hidden before ghost hunted. 2 times in a row the ghost got me through the boards and it was not a wraith or a deogen. Is this glitched or is there something else I am not taking into account?

You could be talking or your mic could be making white noise which would attract the ghost to you.

Might also just be cruddy luck. I had a banshee that I smudged and went to hide where you described, waited while listening to it walking around the kitchen, and then the ghost just decided "hmm, well, lemme check to see if he went downsta- oh hi there!" (First hunt, Mic was turned off and had no electronic equipment btw).

Hiding spots are never guarantees.

hiding spot =/= safe spot

they can still randomly walk to your hiding spot
you're really never totally safe, that's terror

Safe spots are bugs that they work hard to identify and eliminate.

Hiding spots will usually prevent a ghost from finding you but all have a chance of being compromised in one of many ways, including dumb luck.

This is the Problem with Furniture based Hiding Spots - they are not really safe. Even if not making any Noise or attracting the Ghost with active Electronics in your Hand, they might randomly roam in the Hiding Spot.
They can't do that with Lockers and Closets, as long as you hold the Door closed and don't attract the Ghost. They might walk past you and try to open the Door, but due to you holding the Door closed, they will not open it.
So, always prefer "actual" Hiding Spots like Closets or Lockers. If none are available, try a remote Hiding Spot, like the Shelves in the Laundry Room in Willow - Ghosts will rarely go and check there.

I hope at some point, they change the AI a bit, so a Ghost can't roam in a official Hiding Spot anymore, unless it sees the Player going in there or a Player attracting the Ghost there by talking or having active Electronics in the Hand.

Safe spots like lockers/closets aren't bugs.

as for the mic when the ghost is hunting, its best to have the game on push to talk, so even if you dont turn of the mic manually, the ghost wont listen unless you push the button to talk, because if you have the mic on always listen and you turn the mic off, it might give static and the ghost hears that

Fun Fact: In Singleplayer, the Local Chat actually does not attract the Ghost at the Moment. This is a Bug and does not happen in Multiplayer. Using the Global Chat will attract the Ghost however.

By "safe spots" they meant the willow basement spot for example, where the ghost literally cannot kill you. Safe spots ARE bugs. As I said in my previous comment: safe spots =/= hiding spots. Lockers/closets aren't "safe spots", they are "hiding spots". "Safe spot" means a buggy location in the map where the ghost can't kill you even if it sees you.

Stop using "save spot" and "hiding spot" interchangeably, they are NOT the same things.

That spot is in the nav mesh for the ghost. You can tell because the bone can spawn in there sometimes, and the bone only spawns where the ghost can walk.

Well, technically a ghost can walk there.. but when hunting for players, they shouldn't be walking all the way to the hiding spot to try and find them. They walk into the room and unless they have to go through to go out another exit, they'll path back out somewhere.
It's not a hiding spot if the ghost will just walk right into the hiding spot without provocation. I would hope this is considered a bug if this is the case, and will get fixed eventually.

All that being said, I suspect that the ghost doesn't treat stair walls properly. There may be "sight leak" when walking down the stairs, where it is at the moment that it is treated as being on the same floor (so has the ability to have line of sight from the floor being the same), but the wall that would normally prevent reach/sight isn't considered to be there yet. Meanwhile, where you are hiding is only blocking the rest of the room, not the view to the stairs if you take out that wall.

I dunno, it's all speculation on what might be causing it, but it is very annoying to lose in a skill based game when the expected behavior doesn't happen.
I know in the past I've been killed by a ghost on Edgewood that reached across the stair's banister/wall to kill me as I went up while it was still in the middle of the hallway. I should have been treated as on "a different floor". I believe this one was fixed, but it is possible the Tanglewood's basement stairs is producing problems.

Hot mic users always die first and that's why I tend to stay away from them during investigations. No buddy you're good over on that side of the room
