Ghost burns Crucifix at ~80% sanity
Hello guys,
in my recent game of no evidence, the ghost burned a crucifix at around 80% Sanity. Now, only Yokais and Banshees can do that right? But, I haven't been talking at all and yet it hunted. And the Banshee only does that extremely rarely, right? Well, all four crucifixes burnt in a range of around 82-75 Percent sanity.

What is happening?

Update: Turns out it was a Demon... but it hunted 4 times above 70% sanity, I thought Demons can only hunt at below 70%?

Its ability is to hunt at whatever sanity it wants.

Sanity thresholds for all the ghosts:
100%
Demon (ability): Ignores normal sanity checks in order to initiate a hunt. Works at any sanity.
Onryo (ability): Requires blowing out multiple candles/lighters. Works at any sanity.

80%
Yokai (ability): Requires talking close to it.

75%
Thaye* (natural): Only very young Thayes that haven't aged yet.

70%
Demon (natural)

65%
Raiju (ability): Requires being near active electronics

60%
Mare (natural): Requires being in a dark room.
Onryo (natural)

50%
Banshee** (natural)
Goryo (natural)
Hantu (natural)
Jinn (natural)
Mimic*** (natural)
Moroi (natural)
Myling (natural)
Obake (natural)
Oni (natural)
Phantom (natural)
Poltergeist (natural)
Raiju (natural)
Revenant (natural)
Spirit (natural)
Twins (natural)
Wraith (natural)
Yurei (natural)

40%
Mare (natural): Requires being in a lit room
Deogen (natural)

35%
Shade (natural)

15%
Thaye* (natural): Only fully aged Thayes can hunt this late

Notes:
*Thayes will have lower hunt thresh holds as they age. Their range drops by 6% per successful age, and they have 10 checks total.
**Banshees use their target's sanity for hunt checks, ignoring the rest of the team. By technicality, they have the highest natural hunt range at 87.5% Average team sanity if everyone is at 100% sanity while the target is at 50% max.
***Mimics can copy any ghost's natural hunting range and abilities, allowing them to hunt earlier or later depending on the ghost they copy.

Are mimics ever actually in their "natural" form, or will they always be mimicking some other ghost? Ie. is there such a thing as a mimic mimic or can we only ever observe mimics as something else?

To the best of my knowledge, The mimic is never in it's 'natural' form, but essentiallyyes, The mimic can mimic ANY ghost- Including the mimic itself.. So while it's mimicking a ghost, it's the same ghost as it already is and nothing changes. The result is that it's a blank slate ghost with no particular ability, base sanity threshold and speed; it retains the ghost orb weakness regardless of what ghost it's mimicking though.

The Wiki claims that they may imitate a player or themselves, in either case it will just be a default ghost with no special abilities for at least 30 seconds (which is the minimum time before it can choose to change what it's imitating)

Mimicking itself or other ghosts I understand, how's it mimicking "a player"? Does it grab the tarot cards and start pulling rapidly the second you walk into the ghost room too?

The player and the mimic itself doesn't have any special abilities, so there's nothing to copy. Just imagine a Spirit, but with the normal 90 seconds smudge period.

If it’s around 75, I assume Thaye. Been insta-hunted twice by a Thaye so far and killed both times. Coincidentally, the first time was in Grafton Farmhouse and the second was in Bleesdale Farmhouse. Even more coincidentally, both times happened the be the first time I ever played those maps too.

true. but this has never happened to us. whenever we get a thaye it just seems to be lazy, and doesn't usually hunt, even when it is young

Yeah, The likelihood of a Thaye still being as young as possible by the time you hit the point where it can hunt is rather low. At the initial age, it has a 75% hunt threshold- Every successful age check makes the thaye older and reduces that chance by 6%.

So even a single successful age check will lower the threshold enough that picking thaye as the early hunter vs a demon is a crapshoot- It's pretty unlikely to have a fully unaged thaye by that point though as I said. More likely it will have aged 2-4+ times.. Exception being if you've been wandering the house for 10 minutes and somehow still haven't found the ghost room, as the thaye would in fact be fully unaged in that case, since you havent located it.
