DOTS issues
Hi there,

I just played Tanglewood when I was looking for the last prove. Ghost was a goryo but I did not see a DOTS. I was using 2 of the tier 3 DOTS projectors in the long hallway left next to entrance. The game after I had a goryo on exact the same spot. I mounted the DOTS as in the game before- and again there was no DOTS. I moved them to every room to see where it is but it did not show up. Is the DOTS bugged or am I doing it wrong?

A Goryo will only appear on D.O.T.S. through a video camera. You will not see it in person.

I didn´t see him on camera as well. Does it matter how high I install it? I always installed it under the ceiling. Now I installed it near the floor and I saw a DOTS.

It doesn't matter where you put the DOTS (as long as they can sweep where the ghost will go), but it does matter where YOU go. Specifically, you won't see the Goryo DOTS if you hold the camera in the same room (try to stand outside the room, or down a hall is even better). Because of the way the DOTS interaction changed in 0.9.0, it is also harder (though not impossible) to see the DOTS from the van, since the ghost will "spawn" and path towards a player inside the investigation area when it triggers.

That said, if you put a camera on a tripod in the ghost room and go out to the van while someone else is inside, you will still see the DOTS there. But if you're holding it, yeah, make sure you're outside the favorite room.

Goryo DOTS are unusually harder to catch ever since they got changed. You're more likely to catch DOTS when in the same room as the ghost, but with Goryos, you have to be in another room while staring through a camera. On top of that, DOTS behave more like a ghost event than an interaction now, so the projectors no longer force them every so often. So DOTS became much more tedious as a result.

Thank you for your answers guys. One last questions: Freezing temperatures are /*/-+/()/. Especially when a ghost is moving all the time you won´t get the prove even with the tier 3 thermo. It´s guessing all the time. I switch off the breaker at this point but sometimes without a positive result no matter what room and how often I am measuring. Any hints?

Freezing doesn't feel like something you can actively encourage (outside turning off the breaker), which does feel annoying. You just have to keep checking. You could set up motion detectors to get an idea of how much time the ghost is in the room you're checking. If you sense it's a super roaming ghost you're just in for a bad time.

Only things I can think of to ensure it stays in the same place, increasing it's affect on the temperature of the room and your chance of getting freezing temperatures, is using;

Monkey Paw: "I wish the ghost was trapped" - locks the ghost in the ghost room for 60 seconds then starts a cursed hunt. You'd have to check pretty quickly after it started hunting as it will leave the room. Risky.

Burning incense. This only works if it's a Yurei as burning near a Yurei forces it back to it's room for 60 seconds.

Tier 3 salt at the door. Ghosts stepping on tier 3 salt will force it back to the ghost room. If you can ensure it's in the ghost room by any means, then place the salt, it won't be able to leave until it's attempted to roam a bunch of times and stepped through all the salt.

That should theoretically increase your impact on the temperatures in the room as you're keeping the ghost there. But Monkey Paw/Incense is situational depending on if you get Monkey Paw/Yurei, and Tier 3 Salt is obviously a later unlock.

Be interested if people have other ideas as I don't know of anything but "keep checking". my hints are semi-outlandish and only theoretical. Not something I've tested.

My honest recommendation right now to get the best results? Go back to the T1 thermometer. The T2 and T3 ones are still worse IMO, I unlocked them, tried them, and went back to T1 immediately. It's the only tool that currently is far better in its basic incarnation than the others.

That will likely get a change later on, but for now, T1 is the best for temps.

That said, VulgarMonkey's tips are all solid, I would only add keeping both thermometers inside; one in the current ghost room, and one in an adjacent room. Periodically, pick each one up, check it, go into another room, then back in to make sure temps are fluctuating. Check them often to make sure the ghost is where you think it is, because roamers are ALWAYS annoying.

Beyond that, it's worth looking into some of the tells for each ghost too...a lot of times, I will leave things for evidence, then go casually look for the bone while they sit for a minute. I can get the bone and cursed object photos, then come back and check my thermometer, book, and so on. It gives my sanity a couple minutes to drain, because hunts are usually where I figure out the ghost anyway. This is, naturally, a difficult thing for newer players, but learning these things is what happens as you get more experienced anyway, all part of the learning curve. You'll get there...and we can answer questions until then!
