To the OP, Yes, CE can ABSOLUTELY be used maliciously, and has been used maliciously for most of the game's life span; The devs are cracking down on it.
No dev should have to go out of their way to tell you not to cheat in their game when cheating, especially in MP games, is HEAVILY frowned upon in every game under the sun.
I feel like devs should have thought this through a long time ago. CE being a problem in online gameplay is understandable. But adding things like this last-minute to try to fix your mistakes is not.
You won't get banned just for having either open when attempting to launch the game- Only if you use some extra method to bypass that protection and cheat anyway; For WeMod, that bypass is an extra download that you have to do.
Whether he wants to admit to it or not, Cryborg used a bypass to get past that restriction, and got himself banned for it. And iirc, though he's now claiming he got banned for CE, his original post complaining about being banned he said he was using WeMod. I'd cite it, but it got deleted.
I expect people to have a basic understanding of expectations after reading just one; Since for the most part, many companies nowadays use boilerplate EULA templates with minimal modification.
Point of fact is, If you've played one multiplayer game, and read one warning not to cheat, There is no reasonable reason why you would think you can cheat in the second one, or the third one- Cheating in general is frowned upon, and even more so for MP capable games. The fact that 95+% of MP games ship with an Anti-Cheat itself should be an indicator to you that cheating will get you penalized sooner or later.
It's like the basic expectation to wear clothes in public. You think everyone reads the bazillion laws? No. It's just a social norm that you come to expect. (Edit to add: And, for the record, Ignorance of the law is generally not protection from the law- Just because 'you didn't know' doesn't mean you just get to do the thing with impunity. What is illegal is illegal; What is against the EULA is against the EULA, and it is, generally speaking, your responsibility to read the terms of anything you agree to. "I cant be fussed to read that" isnt an excuse.)
You dont cheat in games unless you're willing to risk getting banned/punished for it, End of, And there's ZERO reason to expect otherwise.
Just enough sass, Maybe even not enough- the guys been crying on the forums on and off for a month or so now about how he got himself banned.
