ouija board killed me?

i used the ouija board once, asked where the bone was and got it. then i came back, asked "where are you" and immediately the ghost spawned in front of me and killed me. it was a poltergeist btw. why did this happen?

"Where is the bone" and "Where are you" questions are draining 50% sanity and, as far as i know, after asking a question if you reach 0% sanity the board breaks and starts a hunt. Guessing that you could've spent some time in the dark after/before asking first question your sanity was below 50% which, after asking second question, the board took your remaining sanity, broke itself and started a hunt.
However the ghost starting hunt in front of you could be just bad luck: ghost decided to roam, the room you were standing in was ghost room or there was a ghost event and ghost didnt had time to return to its room.

An alternative reasoning could be that the room with the ouija board and the ghost room were one in the same, so when the board broke you happened to be in the worst place possible.

ahhh. the ouija board was in the ghost room thats why it spawned in front of me. thanks!

In case the board breaks, the ghost just starts the hunt from the current location of the ghost. If it is already near you, then you've only one second to get away, which usually results in death.

Better ask for the position first to make sure, that it's not near you (and if you want to be save you can take the board somewhere else first) and while you're waiting for the answer you can already take a sanity pill, so that you can ask the second question safely.
