Pretty much that and it actually makes more sense than doing the investigation and exorcism in one go. Like we make the ghost really angry by trying to get their evidences, so it's definitely a good idea to wait a littlebit until they've calmed down again, before someone else go in again to exorcise it.
And you can see that with the other ghost investigation games, where the exorcism part is usually the most dangerous part of the game due to already having lost sanity and tons of defensive items.
That's exactly what the store page tells you this game is.
We are the field intel team, we receive some minor info the research team has dug up (who the ghost was, who they will respond to, if there was any cursed objects) then we head in there find and bodies and try to I.D the ghost for the exorcist team.
They head in there prepared to face w/e ghost we tell them setting up proper rituals and the like and probably dying when it turns out it was the wrong ghost lol
But I think I found Phasmofobia game but the complete version. Anyone checked it out yet? Looks like the real deal:

Because you are investigator, not a hunter. Excorcist team is entirely separate group. Devs don't want you to be able to "fight" the ghost, because that takes away the horror element, because you are no longer investigating the ghost. You are hunting it.
Phasmo devs want ghost to always have the advantage over the players, so players can not just "fight back". Players are always the prey in Phasmophobia.
Ah, the game that relies on cheap jump scares to be "scary" and less maps.
If you can't comprehend that and need to be able to shoot ghost in the face, go play Demonologist. It's there.
Pretending that it is "complete" game just because it lets you exorcise the ghost is however pretty clear bad faith.
Thats some flawed logic there.
Devs wanted game focused on investigation and they did, just because you want to have hunting part doesnt mean that the game is incomplete, it just means you want a different game.
With that logic most games out there would be considered incomplete because they are missing this or that.
F1 racing missing offroad? Incomplete
No guns in Sims? Incomplete
Cant start a space empire in my medieval fantasy rpg? Incomplete
So the game you choose by your logic is incomplete because in this one here...
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1595710/Chased_by_Darkness/
...you can shoot ghost with firearms
oh and this one too is incomplete
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1807080/Ghost_Exile/
you cant shoot ghost, you can banish it but not shoot in their face!
ohh nvm, all of the aboves are incomplete because this one YOU CAN BE THE GHOST so by your logic this is the true phasmophobia!

Could employ maybe using sage or holy water to cleanse rooms, laying down salt lines to protect yourself or trap the entity, speaking some lines of a 'exorcism chant' found in ancient books you have to unlock after trapping it to finish it off etc. Maybe you don't even unlock the ability to take action against entities until you unlock the tools you need. I believe it could be done well while not disrupting the current atmosphere and would give a great ending mechanic to the game.
