Kinetic Games has exactly zero control over VAC bans. They are only handed out by Valve. Didn't even think this game used VAC.
EDIT: Just checked. It doesnt.
If people want to cheat, let them cheat, who cares. If they're in my game and I don't like it, give me the option to kick them. The worst they can do is spoil the ghost or start running like Sonic around the house, nothing game-breaking or save-breaking (as far as I know).
But going out of their way to ban someone for a horrible mistake on their part is mind-boggling.
For example: One of the reasons you can be banned from the game is if you swear, even though there's a MECHANIC that swearing can trigger the ghost. Make it make sense.
You don't want people to somehow have a higher number than other people on their player profiles, do you?
I legit didn't believe you because it sounded so stupid but, sure enough, it's right there in the Code of Conduct.
Like...........................huh?
Maybe, just maybe, there's a sliiiiiiiiiight difference between swearing at a Ghost and swearing at a Player.
Just maybe.
Yes, definitely, but that's the thing. It doesn't specify that in the Code of Conduct. It simply says that you can be banned for swearing.
If its a hacker/modder give a temp ban and remind them of TOS if the person keeps doing it then the fine, perma-ban them as they cant learn a lesson; even competitive PVP games do progressive discipline; and yes, Steam allows for temp game bans if its an issue of account tracking. Additionally, if they do manual review(seems so from my experience with Discord mod), and one of the problem are stolen Steam accounts hacking(ones with 1 game on them that were created a day ago), why not work with people who aren't using them and have dozens of games and thousands of hours on the profile? Similar for toxicity or any other TOS violations.
When play this game its usually drinking with buddies in private rooms, we like to get rowdy, sometimes if I join public server people get offended as the filters tend to stay down(I am assuming was never confronted - shoot, some of the stuff in public server was worse off) - games which gave me warnings I had much better experience with and I either didn't play the game drunk or kept my dark jokes down. In this case, if game, or the mod, gave me warning that me trying to figure out the bug is bad and violated TOS(possibly be more diplomatic about it other than demanding I turn the bug(?) off) I would likely just taken the wiped account, temp ban, and not messed with the game at all(likely scenario) or went to modmail for help at any sign of trouble; At this point I am extremely skeptical in going to any indie dev with bug reports for fear of being insta-banned with no recourse.
Once again, this is just my opinion in the sea of others so my expectation or hope of ban reversal(or at least consideration) is very low, its their game and their rules/interpretation of them; only reason for posting is as a record in case someone else runs across similar problem.
Powertrip mods/admins exists everywhere, makes sense some of them would become game devs at some point.
If you feel it was injust, get in contact with Steam Support. If I'm not mistaken, they can lose the ability of issuing game bans on the platform if they start abusing it so much, and banning inocent people for nothing. Gather proof and chat logs, but be honest though, if you were indeed hacking at some point just let it go.
