The only OP thing about it is how fast it reacts to the temperature, basically instantly starts moving down.
That way it'd still be useful as a "leave it and check it later" thermo, but it'd be way less OP in finding the ghost room fast.
Finding the ghost room is preferable with a tier 3 emf instead of temps imo. And the temperature takes a while to drop below freezing anyway, so I probably wouldn't take a tier 3 therm even if the tier 1 adjusted to temps over 20 seconds or something. you can always pick it up and see exactly the temperature it is, granted you left it in the ghost room for a while (same application as the tier 3).
unless you're speedrunning, there's not really that much of a pressure to get freezing fast. That's why people rather prefer passive waiting time on T1 than active waiting time and low precision on T2/3. Most people run back to the van like 2-3 times anyway, at which point it's not that far away from the freezing point anyway.
T2 is lower res, shows only exact temperature of what it is pointed at but renders everything in red to blue heat map. Pointing it at items the ghost has interacted with gives a faster confirmation of freezing. (Could render it as appearing as a cold hand outline on a mug it threw)
T3 shows temp of what it is pointed at but also shows the maximum and minimum temperature of everything that is currently within its view for even faster identification. Also shows the Hantu cold breath without a hunt and can change temperature spectrum color to black and white.
I've had countless cases of Tier 1 showing freezing and when I check with Tier 3 it takes 20+ tries for it to show freezing. Tier 1 is objectively better. There's no RNG involved, it's always accurate.
My phone LED is also brighter than ALL the flashlights in the game. It's a slightly off topic, but most the items in this game are vastly inferior to real life. Tier 1 flashlight should be as bright as Tier 3 and Tier 2/3 should be MUCH brighter. I have a $5 LED flashlight from Walgreens that could fill up a school gymnasium with light for 10 hours. That should be tier 3. And I agree with you on the thermo
