Report a translation problem
All of you starting the hunt in a hiding place and hiding there for the whole hunt wont work. The ghost has to, at some point during the hunt, SEE a player, begin chasing them, and then lose track of the player; And noone can die during the hunt that this occurs.
It is rather clear code-wise how it works, as Shurenai explained already.
Though the text can be a bit unclear, if you don't take the word "escape" literal. the most common mistake is, that people simply never establish line of sight or lighting a smudge stick with the ghost still being around a corner, thus being blinded in the short period of time people showing themselves to the ghost (which as well prevents teh objective from being marked due to never establishing LoS)
It's that simple.
