How are you supposed to evaluate the direction where a sound comes from when playing mono?

Preetty sure they mean stereo sound.... At least I'd hope.

... But just in case, For the record, OP, Mono is sound produced as if it were emanating from one position. So with mono sound, No matter where the ghost is in relation to you, you'd be hearing it as if it were in front of you for example.

Stereo sound is a method of reproducing multidirectional 3d sound- If the ghost is behind you, it sounds like it's behind you, if it's to your left, it sounds like it's to your left.

You do not want mono sound.

yeah i meant stereo sounds
in game i have stereo on but nothing changes
when iam in the lobby where you can chose multiplayer or singelplayer then there is stereo but when i go into a game it changes
In Windows 11/10, go to your settings by right-clicking the start menu, then go to Accessibility and scroll down to look for Audio - click on it - Next, where say Audio/mono, make sure it is toggled off or toggle it on/then off (this makes it force stereo mode). Lastly, check in-game settings are set to stereo.

Where does the sound come from? One speaker only or both?
Are you using onboard sound or a soundcard / DAC?

Maybe check your cables and maybe try (other) headphone as well
Also try different sound devices.

It's most likely your headphones. Does your headphone actually have a dedicated mic piece? Or is it headphones that have a crappy mic used for phone calls. My Sony HM-1000X3 have this problem.
i have a sony headphones too and i think its the problem of the headphones
