why is the game using so much memory?
i have 16 gb ram. In the task manager, the game took 75 percent of it and going up very slowly 3,000 mb to 4,000 mb. this is not normal to me than other games. I had a PC crashed by playing this game due memory ran out. is there any way we can fix this?

If the game is at 3000mb-4000mb, it's not what was taking up your memory. That's barely a quarter of your total ram and a pretty normal ram value for many games these days. Unless you meant to say 13,000-14,000?

Phasmophobia is absolutely not what's taking up all of your resources, RAM or otherwise.

oh yeah i actually meant say to that lol but it did take almost of my ram with no other windows or applications but that. it took around 10 to 13 gbs of my ram. i have 3060, i5, 16 gbs ram and ssd. i heard this called a memory leak?

I mean, memory leaks are certainly possible...

Try to keep a closer eye on it somehow. If you can describe what's going on when you start seeing memory usage increase...

I have 16GB and it goes up to 13-14GB when playing. Otherwise it idles around 5GB when not playing. It's the only game I have that does a massive spike like that. Other titles like Vermintide 2, Halo: MCC, CS:GO, etc barely make any difference in RAM. Not sure why but this only started happening after one of the patches after the progression update launched. I haven't changed any of my game settings, so maybe there's something I can tweak that I'm missing.

Tested usage both on Windows and Linux (via Proton). On Windows it takes a lot of RAM (from 6 up to 12 gigs of RAM), while on Linux it not only took up all the RAM, but started to take up the swap memory too, which caused my system to completely freeze, so I had to reboot my PC.
Mem Reduct by HenryPP somehow helps when playing on Windows, so everytime when Phasmo takes up all the RAM I use this app to clear it.

I am running the game on my old gaming laptop (It is 10 years old, running on Win 7 and has 8 GB of RAM, NO! I can not afford a new one and won't be able to for years!). The laptop used to run Phasmo okay on the lowest settings along with Discord.

Since the update it has struggled, it takes a good 5 minutes to boot and I can not have ANYTHING else running or it crashes. It now eats up ALL 8 GB of RAM and my PC is getting very hot 75C+

Something changed with the recent update and it is using a lot more resources and it's not like Phasmo is pretty. Final Fantasy XIV is a lot bigger and a lot nicer looking and the laptop runs it fine.

I would recommend joining the Discord and checking their common tech fixes. If those fixes don't work, you can create a post in their tech support channel and a volunteer will assist you.

Running phasmophobia at 2k max settings only requires 6gb of RAM on large maps.
Im looking at a read out of it now lol
But since folk insist on not spending $40 on an extra RAM chip you'll have to try things like reducing texture size to 1/8th and lowering resolution to reduce the memory requirements. :emofdr:
I have the same bug, the game starts at 2 gigs and slowly rises in the span of 1-2 hours up to ten gigs,
note this is only the game, not the entire ram

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
