Try to keep a closer eye on it somehow. If you can describe what's going on when you start seeing memory usage increase...
Mem Reduct by HenryPP somehow helps when playing on Windows, so everytime when Phasmo takes up all the RAM I use this app to clear it.
Since the update it has struggled, it takes a good 5 minutes to boot and I can not have ANYTHING else running or it crashes. It now eats up ALL 8 GB of RAM and my PC is getting very hot 75C+
Something changed with the recent update and it is using a lot more resources and it's not like Phasmo is pretty. Final Fantasy XIV is a lot bigger and a lot nicer looking and the laptop runs it fine.
Im looking at a read out of it now lol
But since folk insist on not spending $40 on an extra RAM chip you'll have to try things like reducing texture size to 1/8th and lowering resolution to reduce the memory requirements.
note this is only the game, not the entire ram
