Are Onryo firelight hunts just inconsistent as hell?

Literally had one blow out 3 candles, no crucifix lit up, nothing, no hunt after 3 candles were blown out at all.

Did you have any lit candles still near by? Since they wont hunt if there are flames near by.

Firelights prevent the Onryo from hunting just like a crucifix does.

When an onryo blows out the third candle, if there's still another lit candle in range they'll blow that out too- One after the other, the third candle prompting the ghost to initiate a hunt, the fourth preventing the hunt like a crucifix.

I'm not sure about the reliability of the hunt being caused but in terms of testing for it it's more reliable to keep a candle lit on top of a crucifix until the cruci is used to show it's not (once in hunting sanity range), and if it refuses to use it until the candle is out, it's an Onryo.
