Was playing on Edgefield, custom difficulty. (x3.70)
Ghost Orb? Then it was not a Shade, because Shades don't have Ghost Orb.
-EVERY ghost can Airball EXCEPT for the Oni, so that is not a good indicator of ghost.
-Every ghost can red light, it's just one of the many ghost events that can happen at any given time, and unlike airball does not exclude any ghosts from the list.
-When the journal says it's "shy", that only applies when you are in the same spot as the ghost. The second the ghost sets foot outside the same designated room as you, it is no longer bound by those rules...for instance, the Tanglewood kitchen and dining room are two rooms, as is the hall directly adjacent. If you're not specifically standing in the room where the invisible ghost model is currently standing, it has no limitations on what it will do.
Shades are a little harder to pin down if you're solo, since there's no way to know where they are, but with 4 people they can be pretty easy to suppress, you just spread out between the ghost's room, and several of the closest areas, and it will never hunt. Of course, that also makes it harder to get its evidence, so you're making things a bit harder in a different way. ;)
It wasn't acting like a shade in the ghost room. And it hunted really early. We had just brought in a second load of gear after finding the ghost room at Grafton when it started hunting. We swore it was a demon with how early the hunt was.
That's not an evidence tho? Like, any ghost (except Oni) can do ghost ball event. Just like any ghost can do red room.
Hell, Shade can even be as aggressive as Demon once the sanity gets low enough, only thing that it is hard coded for is to have reduced action (and blocked hunt) when in room with an investigator.
Sounds like someone was messing with cursed object, or you wasted all your sanity while wandering in the dark.
Edit: I'd also ask what difficulty you were on, and what cursed items were used. How many people were inside vs outside as well.
I was just summarizing all the things the shade did in a single game in Edgefield, it was very active at high sanity levels.
